I am looking for a feat or alternate class feature that would enable a fighter to use improvised weapons while maintaining balance. If you are familiar with Kambei from 7 Samurai or Afro from Afro Samurai, they use their weapons with great skill, but when necessary they use improvised weapons to suit their needs.

I was thinking about converting the arena fighter of 4ed Dark Sun to 3.5, but I would like to use untrained weapons and improvised ones (ladders, pipes, bottles) alike.

Do rules for this exist? And if not, how can I create rules that maintain balance in play?

Would the Improvised Weapon Proficiency be what you are looking for?

Or would something broader like Always Armed by Jonathan Drain be more your flavor?
