Hello I was looking on opinions for my build for the next upcoming Lair Assault. I decided on the executioner.

With my build I went for upping damage and maximizing the utility of my poison attacks as much as possible and tried to get a little stealth in there as well.

Item-wise I have a level 8 dagger which should be good to go but I can take another item at level 9 and one at 10. I have no idea what kind of leather armor would be appropriate and I also have around 3400gp to spend on other gear and consumables.

I'd appreciate any suggestions (feats, gear, tactics) as I've never played an assassin before.

Do you know the other members of your party or are you going in and finding a team at the table? –  Simon Withers May 23 '12 at 2:24

I am skeptical about the idea that I think you're about to use. Granted, I've only done 1 lair assault and they usually consist of one gigantic encounter split into multiple encounters, but no short rest involved. If I'm thinking what you're doing is correct, you're gonna try to guarantee that when you hit with Cunning Dagger combined with Poisoned Dagger, you'll essentially make a -6 penalty for the first saving throw they would have to make on a Nitharit Poison to try and go for the 2 extra, then 5 extra.

For some reason, My mind is thinking somewhere this is not going to turn out the way you'd think and I don't know why yet. Perhaps its because since the build relies on many different weapons, my mind sees the no magic Ki-Focus yet as a huge disadvantage since you lose 2 attack and damage possibilities for anything else. Since you are a striker and my experience with a Lair Assault as a striker last time: Damage as much as possible as reliable as possible.

Also, for the mention, You might want to look for something that can heal you without too much reliance on the leader (I'll assume you'll have 1 leader max for the Lair Assault).

I hope this at least guides you to what you're looking for.

good point on the ki focus. that should be the magic weapon here not a magic dagger. –  wax eagle May 23 '12 at 11:40

Executioner's don't use Ki focuses like normal assassins. I guess what you are trying to say is that the class build as a whole is at a disadvantage for encounters over other classes where you just pick 1 weapon? Honestly I think there is the space for another magic weapon (the rapier or the garrotte) if you think that is the main issue. –  Joshua Aslan Smith May 23 '12 at 13:17

@josh That's one issue. Starting with an exe is another... :) –  wax eagle May 23 '12 at 17:51

lol, to me it seemed like one of the better essentials classes. I like the access to martial feats and not relying on shrouds for damage output. Seemed like a lot of options. You may be right though that an executioner is wrong for this Lair Assault because it will be "timed" (20 rounds to complete objectives). –  Joshua Aslan Smith May 23 '12 at 20:13

Out of curiosity, what do you mean Executioner's don't use Ki Foci like normal Assassins? Also, I wasn't saying that it actually is a huge disadvantage in reality. Just that in my mind it seems so. Playing in a campaign right now and also used during Living Forgotten Realms, focusing on one at-will just seemed bad since the reliance would be on just poison. It may not be here, but considering each at-will is distinct on the weapon sans 'Quick Lunge'. On one hand, the Ki Focus MIGHT allow you to increase that Warlock power, but I never figured using the Ki Focus implement rule to arcane. –  zapoqx May 24 '12 at 16:56
