Does the Quick Draw feat allow you to also store the weapon you were wielding as part of the free action? If not, what sort of action is it to 'switch weapons' without dropping one or the other on the floor?

Quick Draw.

The benefits don't mention putting away anything. I have always used this as a draw only feat, as I believe it's been that way pretty much since 3.0. Now, as you mentioned, that doesn't preclude you from using a free/swift action to drop your weapon, and quick draw a different one. But by default, if you want to put your weapon away, you must take a move action to do so.

This. It takes you much less time to grab and pull a weapon out of its sheath, but takes significantly longer to put it back into that same sheath. – Pulsehead Jun 13 '12 at 16:33
   
Indeed. Purely opinion: Were it my game, and I the DM, I would probably rule in favor of the creation of a second feat called "Quick Sheath". That way you could do it, but it'd cost you pretty significantly to be able to do so. I can't imagine how that could be unbalancing. Though that could just be lack of imagination on my part... – Naetuir Jun 13 '12 at 16:50

In my circles we include sheathing because of things like iaijutsu where a character would quickly draw, slash, sheathe the weapon in a fluid motion. (Granted that's in spirit to the original source of the skill). Creating an extra feat to put a weapon away kind of black balls a character's development. – CatLord Jun 14 '12 at 11:33

simple solution, with Quick Draw, make sheathing a Swift Action, tada, solved.

-1 Please explain how to turn sheathing into a swift action. I'll remove my downvote once this answer explains that. If it's just a house ruling, and not possible via RAW, that isn't really helpful (because you could just immediately resolve the entire issue via houserules by saying Quick Draw lets you quickly swap). – Jonathan Hobbs Oct 29 '12 at 12:07
