How do powers work? I'm unclear on how to actually use at-will powers during combat. For example, when can I use Nimble Strike (as an Elven Ranger) and how do I make it happen?

Something that has helped me get up to speed is listening to the Critical Hit podcast. I am just now getting back into playing RPGs so I am having to relearn a lot. If you go all the way back to episode 1 in the podcast the hosts do a walkthrough of character creation and then they get into actual game play all the while explaining the mechanics. – etank Jul 15 '12 at 23:21

@Luke, please read our FAQ. RPG.SE is for expert Q&A on RPGs - not for asking people to post a whole rulebook for you piece by piece. All your questions would not be questions if you owned and had read the 4e rulebook. @RMorrisey "how do powers work" is not really answerable in any specific sense (in the general sense the answer is really RTFM). Unless we're talking about power use strategy, I don't really see this as worth the time to reopen. And based on the user history here I doubt that anything that advanced is in his purview at the moment. – wax eagle Jul 16 '12 at 11:21

If you look on pages 15 and 54 of they PHB they describe how to use at-will powers.

You can use them as often as you like. They represent simple tasks that do not put unusual strain on your character.
