Are thera any other RPG's with complicated (but good) dice rules? In Eon, a swedish RPG, there are somthing called "unlimited dice" which works as follows:

Let's say you have a skill level 16 in Climbing then, in order to succeed with an action you have to roll under 16 with you dice throw (depending on difficulty, 1-5 dices, 3 is "normal difficulty")

  • If you roll 3 dice, and one gives 6 eyes, this is rerolled until no more dice shows a 6.
  • If you roll 2 or more dice with 6 eyes then you have a risk of fumble, if you exceed you skill level after rolling the unlimited dices. (Resulting in failure as well as some extra punishment like getting tearing your backpack, dropping some items)
  • If you roll all OR all but one dice with 1 eye, then you have a chance of perfect action if you roll under the skill level after finishing unlimited dices ( Resulting in you have a chance of leveling up that skill as well as some extra benefit, as maybe only using half as much energy)

Hi Vixen, could you give us a little bit more of the context behind this question? There are thousands of RPGs with systems of varying complexities out there. If we had some idea why you wanted to know, we could do a bit better than randomly naming systems. – AceCalhoon Jul 23 '12 at 15:24

@vixen Welcome to RPG.SE. This question is really not narrow enough to answer, could you provide more details. I've voted to close until more details are provided. If you need further guidance there are some good guidelines in the FAQ or on meta – wax eagle Jul 23 '12 at 15:28
What you are describing ressemble the brutal of DnD 4E in some point where you roll 1d6 brutal 1 (meaning reroll until you have something else than 1). Not worth an answer but I think you're question should be clearer... – MrJinPengyou Jul 23 '12 at 15:30

@MrJinPengyou the mechanic is called exploding dice, and is a feature of numerous systems. – wax eagle Jul 23 '12 at 15:33

5 by 5 by Jeff Moore is a solid generic system that was designed to teach children mathematics. You roll two D6 and multiply them together before comparing with a target number. 6s are dealt with as 0s.

This doesn't seem to answer the question. (which is rather unanswerable) – wax eagle Jul 23 '12 at 15:39
