Possible Duplicate:
Are there any good websites which have story hooks and plots points for campaigns?

What are the good sources for adventure ideas/plot hooks for RPG games? I am specifically not looking for purchasable, big modules which occupy a good couple of sessions just to skim through, because these take far too much spotlight and I do not want to read through few dozens of pages to scrap for anything worthwile. I want ideas which can be incorporated into any session - specific events, interesting situations, plot threads, generic things to stimulate GMs imagination. Some examples:

An important political figured is assassinated and the culprit falls into player character's mercy.

A strange person hands one of the player characters an odd, golden card which reappears in said characters pocket even if thrown away and brings the character unneeded attention of shady figures.

Things generic enough that they can fit any campaign in many settings. The source can take form of a blog, quality forum topic, pre-prepared list or a decent random generator.

do you have access to any GM manuals for any systems? Those books are usually filled with tables that have this info. – Colin D Aug 24 '12 at 17:29
@ColinD: I don't really have access to them, and the few that I have (DnD 3.5 and Dragonlance) are not exactly filled with ideas. – Maurycy Zarzycki Aug 24 '12 at 18:17
@SevenSidedDie Actually the linked question is what I needed really, I couldn't find anything like that so that's why I asked, so this question can be closed/removed. – Maurycy Zarzycki Aug 24 '12 at 19:05
I think that other question could, possibly, maybe be edited into an acceptable form and reopened, but in the meantime I'm glad the links there are useful! – SevenSidedDie Aug 24 '12 at 19:08
Ask, and ye shall receive: Eureka: 501 Adventure Plots by the guys over at Gnome Stew. – mudbunny Aug 25 '12 at 4:03

What you're looking for are tropes, like these tv tropes

Merriam-Webster gives a definition of "trope" as a "figure of speech." In storytelling, a trope is just that — a conceptual figure of speech, a storytelling shorthand for a concept that the audience will recognize and understand instantly.

You can also try googling "plot devices" as well.

I am not sure that's what I am looking for - I am not looking for tropes but potential plot ideas, things that stimulate idea generation. I suppose Tropes could serve my needs but I am not convinced, as I frequent the site and never considered it as a place to gather ideas, perhaps it is an issue of my mindset when visiting it. Plot devices sounds better, but if I were able to find what I need via google I wouldn't have asked I am afraid. – Maurycy Zarzycki Aug 24 '12 at 18:16
