Rogue Trader allows players to take on the role of a ship's captain, known as a Rogue Trader, and her crew in a bid to expand the fortunes of themselves and their rogue trader dynasty.

Rogue Trader uses a D10/D100 system for character statistics and skill/damage checks. Character progression moves through a set of ranks, unlocking skill and talent options at each stage.
