comment How do I represent semi-realistic gun fire-fights using Pathfinder/D&D 3.5 cover rules?
Cyberpunk 2020's Friday Night Firefight for one realistic gun game. D&D is defintiley designed for heroic battles though - think of all those movies where the main characters can run through open ground and not get hit once whilst simultaneously shooting all targets with 1-shot kills. That's what D&D's hp system is designed to replicate.

comment Ending combat: should I “kill” monsters prematurely?
don't forget that monsters are people too (umm...) and morale plays a good part in any fighting force. Once its obvious they're beaten, most units will surrender, retreat or rout. Some say 50% casualty rate means a unit is no longer effective. I think the number to kill before they run depends on the type of unit and their discipline.

comment DM taking away XP from players as a form of punishment
Whatever happened to telling him what kind of game you want to play. If he's experienced (and good) he'll likely understand and will GM some fun games. Its a 2-way experience playing these games. In my day, we used to sometimes play 2 campaigns at a time - serious on a Sunday, and fun on Wednesday. Everyone wins :)

comment Can Druids tame a dinosaur?
I say, give the Druid a velociraptor as requested.... "I roll 15, a hit", "ok, your 'raptor runs up and gives your target's ankle a nasty nip".. that'll teach them to think movies are any substitute for learning.

comment Techniques for making undead scary again
I like the last bit - reminds me of the Supernatural series, they'd find a ghost, hit it with something iron and it'd dissipate.. but it'd keep coming back until they found its bones and burnt them. The sense of relentlessness can be frightening... or tedious, so be careful to give the players enough clues to deal with the problem.

comment How do I deal with these crazy PCs?
or if they like sexual harrassment, Macho Women with Guns might be a good, silly, game to play.
