comment Is the turn when a readied action goes off, considered a different turn from the one when the ready action took place in?
I see now that curse used to work like I described until it was errata'd. I missed the memo :)

I guess that's why the rule confused me, because it goes against what I've believed and played for the past 4 years. I learned something new today! Strange that the rule for "Once per Round" seems to contradict this by using the word turn in its definition.

I found the "Once per turn" rule from the compendium to be more confusing than helpful. Once per round seems more pertinent here.

Or "Ready, take an OA and deal curse damage, then the readied action triggers." Or a warlord grants you an attack, etc, etc. There are plenty of ways this could happen.

comment Assassin or Rogue for high DPS?
Can you clarify what you want using 4th edition terms? It sounds like you are looking for a character who excels in Bluff, Thievery, and damage. Which of the three is most important? Also, what constraints do you have (level, race, magic items, etc)?

You don't control the toad, the toad controls you.

comment How do I reduce the number of encounters in D&D 4E without reducing the difficulty?
Just a side note: make sure the players know (in-world or meta) that this is the only battle of the day. As a player, once I've realized that I'm in the expend-everything-to-win situation, combat gets a lot more fun.

comment What are the major differences between Pathfinder and D&D 4e?
I don't know if it qualifies as an exact duplicate but this question should help you since 3.5 and pathfinder are quite similar. rpg.stackexchange.com/q/897/1069

comment Avoiding meta-gaming in combat
This question is sort of vague. What are some examples of metagaming that you are trying to aviod? Positioning and power selection is tactics, not metagaming. Also, rpg.stackexchange.com/q/7921/1069 and rpg.stackexchange.com/q/7500/1069 may be of some use to you.

comment How do I transition my players from roll-playing to role-playing?
I like this idea. I may start individual email threads with each player to do this between sessions.

comment How can I make downtime interesting?
I do now have buy-in from the players. I asked them directly if they wanted to spend a few sessions roleplaying in town, or fast forward and get back to the action. The unanimous reply was to take some roleplaying opportunities.

@Aesin Good point. The group is just reaching epic tier, but haven't spent much time in the city since mid-paragon. So establishing them as the heroes of the city is one of my goals.

The "what are they going to do" question is covered by the linked question. This one is more about how to get players interested and invested in roleplaying. I'm not saying this answer is bad, but perhaps you want to split it between the two questions?

comment How can I emulate TV Shows with only 2-3 main characters?
I'd just pick two supporting characters and write them deeper into your custom storyline. Cas, Bobby, Ellen - there are lots of choices if you're willing to develop them a bit more. It's certainly less work than inventing new characters. Remember its not too hard to bring people back from the dead in Supernatural :)

@ColinD Thanks, I did not remember anything like that from my 3.5 days. Removed that point.

While amusing, I'm curious if this is a practical, answerable question based on actual problems that you face.

comment What kinds of effects can modify a die roll?
Nitpick: With the dice of auspicious fortune, you use the result you rolled earlier instead of rolling the attack, not after you see it and dislike it. So it doesn't exactly fit in this list (since you're not modifying the result, you're predetermining it).
