About Me

I am employed as a software engineer by a high performance media trader. There, I use Python, C++, Go, and AWS.

I like parsimonious code, with simple interfaces and excellent documentation. I'm not interested in enterprise, boiler-plate, or cookie-cutter nonsense. I oppose cruft and obfuscation. My favourite languages are C, Go and Python. I wish I was better at Haskell.

comment In early D&D, why would chainmail ever be preferred over plate armor?
Chainmail: 40gp. Plate: 60gp. It doesn't seem convincing.

You are the master of all things RPG. This answer is great, and cuts through PC in the quest for accuracy.

comment Why do Clerics unlock 3rd and 4th level spells at the same experience level?
I own the Cook Expert rules, and can verify it is 2/2/1/1 at level 6 as I've stated. Possibly Moldvay is compensating for not including the higher level cleric spells by simply giving more spells at those higher levels unless the Cook rules are included? Note that given all these occurences, it doesn't explain why rules released just days ago should continue the trend.

I found: Creatures that use two-handed weapons (+2 to Melee Attack) also add 5 to their Menace Rating.

100cn difference is not much (max carry is 2400), and 10% is a bit of an understatement (it's a very undramatic way to look at the difference). ac 4 to ac 2 is a 40% reduction in chance to be hit by first level monsters.

comment Is anyone playing Mazes & Minotaurs?
Heh, I saw that mentioned in the FAQ, and assumed it was just joking. So was the original game written in 2005, and the revised version in 2007?

comment Overview of D&D retro-clones
Mazes & Monsters is the only game that seems significantly different from D&D to be worth looking at (unless one wants 0e with different art). Great list!

Very interesting. They're pretty much exact replicas of BECMI and 0e.

What is 0e? I've never heard of this.
