comment Which skill check (if any) lets characters free themselves from rope bindings?
@IreneSunset aye, see my last paragraph, if this isn't a combat situation (or is the lead up to one), make a skill challenge weaving in several relevant skills (and in these cases the skills that are used aren't necessarily by the book, it's more how the story is told via the skill challenge)

@AceCalhoon yeah, it looks like I copied the same section twice. The Athletics section doesn't have the detail. I'll correct. Athletics seems to be more for escaping a grab (where both athletics and acrobatics are an option). Athletics may still be appropriate, but acrobatics should be preferred.

@Lucifer I suppose you could, but it's pretty clear from the rules it's intended to be Athletics/Acrobatics, see cites.

comment Does the Vanguard Weapon property only trigger when used to make the attack?
What about Subtle weapon? they issued errata for it to specify attacks made with that weapon. They didn't for Vanguard, Lucklender and Thundergod...I'm not sure I buy the specific beats general argument here (it's a good one, its just that the lack of support for it in other texts and the fact that an overwhelming number of weapon entries specify "this weapon" vs the few that don't even post errata. As for the aim of the AV rule? I don't know, tbh it's an odd place for such an impactful rule. Why wouldn't it be restated in the RC or at least present in the online compendium

comment A few questions about mounts
I've removed my downvote here. While I still don't know that ignoring the rules is the best choice here, it is now far more apparent that your issue is with the Mounted Combat rules specifically.
