comment Does Magic Missile really always hit a creature of choice?
5e doesn't have spell resistance. A creature could have resistance to force damage or all spell damage, but spell resistance is not a 5e term. Also Magic Missile doesn't work like that in 5e, it's 3 as a 1st level spell and one each for each spell level after first expended (so if you cast it as a 9th level spell its 12 missiles)

comment Does the lack of automatic AC scaling mean you get easier to hit as you level up?
@Gothnog The 5e section is pretty much exactly how 4e put HP too. (and it had way more scaling of...everything)

comment Limits on Cleric's Mending?
Hi and welcome! You've given 4 answers, and 3/4 so far have been quite a bit shorter than what we usually like to see. Make sure if you're going to answer a question you answer the whole question. It's also important to answer the question first and then talk about what you'd do. In this case you need to handle the RAW of the spell first and then get into how you'd change it.

comment How to challenge epic level characters?
@nvoigt the problem is that this problem isn't specific. This is a problem you face, but not an answerable one. You have to make a first effort at trying to solve it and come back when you have trouble. You can't just say "epic is hard, help" you have to say "epic is hard, I'm having trouble figuring out XY and Z, help me solve my problem"

comment How to challenge epic level characters?
This is really broad. D&D is 5 or 6 almost completely different games that share some basic similarities (mostly in setting and fundamental basic mechanics). Trying to craft a challenging encounter for 4e is going to bay different from 3 or 5 (and 3 and 5 should be quite different as well). There is no objective criteria by which to judge this subjective question. It's simply too broad.

comment What's the probability of getting three matching faces in any one roll of four Fudge dice?
@BESW yes. I can add that in. I'll get it added at the same time that I add the formulas.

@Sandwich yes. It's fairly complicated, but I'll get to it later.

comment How can I make a deal with a devil?
This isn't actually an answer. It answers the question in the title (though drawing wholly from prior edition materials that are not particularly relevant here), but importantly misses the fact that title is just an evocative title for a mechanical question (namely, how the heck do you contain an unwilling power). This question isn't asking about the mechanics for a Faustian bargain (which at this time 5e wisely leaves wholly to the DM), it's asking about the mechanics of containment.

comment Do cantrips gained through Pact of the Tome use Charisma or their default stat?
@Miniman no, because it's based on the class you choose as your spell casting class.

Considering that Imprisonment and Gate are both 9th level, this means you're needing 2 17th level casters. Definitely not a solo mission here.

comment I failed to open a lock. Now what?
@DougM that's pretty universal as a concept. I'd say the answer below this one from RS Conley indicates that meaningless rolls are very much not a part of 5e. See the bolded text of the quotes he cites.

You can also pre-roll for scenarios like this. Roll it during your session prep.

@BraddSzonye yeah, noted that in your answer, and included it here now too. Very good catch.

comment What actions can I take to move a PC that is in our way?
It's important to note that party member's spaces are considered difficult terrain though

comment The Warcaster Feat and Arcane Focus
@Snowpaw you may be able to hold your weapon in your shield hand. You can't use your shield hand to touch your focus since it's not "Free"

comment Order of Combat Operations (Warlock's Curse)
@Masaka re: teleportation. I'm arguing that the teleportations are two separate instances and thus are separate. The initial teleport puts you in the portal square, the second takes you through the portal. If they are handled as one, then you could force the save twice. If they are handled separately, then you can't. It's a grey area, but I'd handle them separately in my game.

comment Order of Combat Operations (Warlock's Curse)
@Masaka re: PHB citation, no, Pg 61 of the rules compendium though might help. We're splitting hairs here since we're parsing order of ops from something that is typically handled simultaneously. best we can do is try to find a bit of order.

What's the point of having them roll at all though if you're just going to give the success no matter the result?

comment As a Sorcerer, how can I improve my reaction melee weapon attack?
@Khashir Maybe change the title to "how can I improve my reaction attacks?" and make sure it's clear that the focus is on driving off turn action attacks. Also your stats and where you have flexibility

comment Order of Combat Operations (Warlock's Curse)
@Masaka it's not actually that you can't force a save twice with the same ability, it's that the enemy would be standing on the portal square. So yes, the push is still very much in force, it's just you can't force the guy to save against the portal again since he's standing on it and that means you can't push him into it again.
