Web Programmer. 4e player/DM. Have also run several games of Dread, and DMing an infrequent play test of DNDNext. Relatively new to table top gaming but I'm a fast learner.

comment Can a player mark two different targets?
The key here is the lack of ability to enforce multiple marks. Most classes only get to enforce their marks 1/round (via immediate actions).

comment How can I make my allies & myself regularly benefit from Mark of Warding?
Straight up, if you want to grant power based defensive bonuses, you want to play a leader, not a defender. There is basically 1 at-will at L1 for a defender that grants a defensive bonus (Earth Shield Strike from the Warden list), you might be able to take advantage of this on an encounter basis via encounter powers, it's not a core feature of any defender class.

comment What happens to effects when their origin dies?
@BlackEye technically, yes. There are plenty of monsters that raise an NPC or even NPCs who get raised automatically. The only real question might be what happens for that rare NPC who changes initiative position when they are raised (though that's a separate question).

comment How do Saving Throw bonuses interact with multiple effect conditions?
@Ravn yes it does.

comment What happens to effects when their origin dies?
Very good point, typically if, say, they get turned into a wraith when they die, they'll keep their same init.

comment Removing XP as a requirement to level
The only real thing with 4e is just making sure that the party has sufficient treasure awarded every level, after that there's really no need for XP, leveling every ~10 encounters is about the same. Excellent point that this doesn't solve the third bullet there.

comment What is the best two handed weapon in 4th edition?
While this is somewhat insightful, it's not really the kind of analysis this question is looking for.

comment Can an enemy overrule your dominate feature with another dominate attack power?
@Yakk is there a power that inflicts conditional weakened? (or any other status effect that's conditional?) How does this jive with the degrees of condition language? What actual rules support this conclusion?

comment Can an enemy overrule your dominate feature with another dominate attack power?
@Yakk you'd have to show that this is a clear exception (feel free to write up an answer yourself). But it's listed with the rest of the conditions, you'd have to prove that it behaves differently.

comment Can an enemy overrule your dominate feature with another dominate attack power?
@Yakk yes. it's a status effect, as such it's identical. See the degrees of effect passage I quoted.

@Anna the only clear distinction is the last part of each of our answers Think about the ruling you as the DM would make there and accept that one. The guidance for accepted answers isn't actually the "Right" one, it's the "Most useful" one

comment Can I choose not to defend against an attack?
Yeah, hence the spend the action and grant for full round option. That at least sets up a real cost to the cheese which seems about the right balance to me. But it would obviously depend on the strength of the combo they're attempting to pull off

comment Can I choose not to defend against an attack?
A compromise solution might allow the Ally to grant CA for the round by spending an action on their turn, in direct contrast to Total Defense.

@BrianBallsun-Stanton seems like in that case this would violate the spirit of Sack-of-Rats

comment Do the core D&D 4th edition rulebooks get updated?
It's worth mentioning that the most uptodate in print rules document is the Rules Compendium

@JoshuaAslanSmith you mean like when the affected character dies?

Thanks, for some reason that text didn't make it into the online compendium. RC 121 has it as well.

comment What happens to effects when their origin dies?
Should probably mention some specific conditions that do specify they end when the inflicter dies, like marked.

Fritz, I added an illustration to try to show exactly what you're talking about. Please take a look and make sure I've got exactly what you're talking about.

Do you have a cite for this? Or a reasoning that supports it? A single sentence isn't much of an answer
