Web Programmer. 4e player/DM. Have also run several games of Dread, and DMing an infrequent play test of DNDNext. Relatively new to table top gaming but I'm a fast learner.

comment A boon too far? Riding Tenser's Floating Disk with Tenser's Circular Shield
For a Level 7 PC attacking a monster with DR5 would be the equivalent of a +6 to AC. (I ran the calc using a dwarf warden at level 7 weilding a +2 craghammer with his basic attack). Typical avg dmg vs 21 AC is 9.05, avg damage against 27 AC is 4.4. Not sure how avg damage scales with a monster, couldn't easily find that on a per level basis, id imagine its a bit higher and thus the AC boost wouldn't be as high, but its still impressive.

@Tchalvak - not unless someone with a poor arcana check casts the ritual. But most of the time its going to be a wizard with an off the charts arcana.

@Tchalvak - it depends on the roll when it is called into existence. Anywhere from 250-2000 lbs I think.

I see your point. It can definitely be easily abused. I have seen it mentioned that because its only 3 ft. in diameter you could tell the caster that they are squeezing while aboard.

comment How do you determine your attack?
One of the most helpful things our group has done is get a DDI subscription, it generates character sheets with power cards all of the to hit and damage modifiers included right on the power cards. Its about 10$ a month if you go month to month or cheaper if you buy a whole year at a time.

comment Where does a thrown weapon land after a missed attack?
Was hunting around in the compendium and realized that arrows, bolts and bullets are all consumed upon firing. This question only really applies to mundane thrown weapons.

Related - rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/7861/… I asked the question because of this current question.

That is pretty close to what I was thinking about when I asked the question. Good thought on basing it on how badly it missed.

comment Convert a D&D 4e adventure to another level
Good question. My DM is actually currently doing this. Between us being level 6 and being a party of 6 instead of 5 he is having a time making sure the encounters are adjusted properly and that we don't hack and hew through them too easily. I will ask him and try to convince him to post an answer.

comment Does cover also grant concealment?
Can't find a compendium reference. However its quite clear in the "Rules of the Hidden Club" page on the WOTC forum "Q:Can I "move 0" and become Hidden? A: Yes, if you used a Move Action. Same with standing up - any Move Action, or any action that lets you Move."

Welcome to RPG.SE. Great first answer.

My understanding is that you can burn your move action on a turn to make another stealth check without actually moving. Therefore if they want to stay in one place they can make another stealth check, but their move action is then gone.

comment Ideas For a Dungeon With High CR
I like this iteration of the chess puzzle. Another is the one used in the 4e Red Box. You start on one of two squares on one side of the board and then you can only move like the piece that you entered the board (if you enter in a night position you must move as a night does, if you entered on a bishop square you must move as a bishop does). In the puzzle in the Red Box you were opposed by constructs that had movement to the pieces on a chess board. As they are constructs it can easily be reactivated from whatever side the players enter the room.

comment How should a GM handle novice players?
Excellent call on the open encounters idea. Lay the mechanics bear for everyone to see for a session and just help players figure out how the game works. If time allows this can be done in private or with just a couple of people so that the players can get a feel for how the game works before they enter the full table.

@dpatchery - that's a long time. I would go nuts.

comment A PC dies every session - bad tactics or the normal outcome of adventuring?
If you have a video camera available you can tape an encounter or two so you can revisit it and review your tactics...

comment What to do when a curse makes a character useless?
How badly is their damage suffering from only being able to make claw attacks? Is it just a matter of needing a bit of extra help with their to-hit modifier. Obviously most of their powers are going to be useless, but could you allow them proficiency with their claws? (+2 or +3 to hit, of if you are higher level maybe equiv of a magic item and proficiency)

comment Inventory: How can you carry adequate equipment without bringing a caravan?
@user1637 my main point in that bullet is to sacrifice a bit of something so you don't have to micromanage. I see 2 options, sacrifice some of your realism and just don't worry about it, or sacrifice some of your in game cash and hire an NPC to worry about it for you. He is your party porter, he is useless in battle unless your stuff is at stake, then he is ordered to run like hell.

comment What ways are there to anger the PC's without angering the players?
+1 for not taking XP. Its a total drag because of all the things that PCs value I think this might be the thing we value the most.
