comment How does one craft Potions of Healing?
@GregoryAvery-Weir I added the references to the sections I'm talking about. It seems pretty clear from those (and also the treasure awarding they do in the starter adventure) that potions of healing are supposed to be treated like mundane items.

comment How many Ability Dependencies is too many? (What is MAD?)
@MatthieuM. so far the only equipment we've seen dealing with stats sets them to 19. So it actually aids MAD builds rather than harms them. Because of the tight binding of accuracy in this sytem, I don't anticipate magic items that raise stats much beyond 20, maybe 22 or 24 for super rare stuff. But ability score advancement is not as crucial a part of 5e like it is other editions.

@MatthieuM. we've not seen anything that lets you surpass 20 in the final game yet (doesn't mean it won't be there, magic items are in the DMG). But I'm not sure what you're getting at re: equipment selection. the only equipment that is tied to stats right now is armor.

comment What is the weight of a laden adventurer?
yeah, for whatever reason it's not only not in the starter, it's not listed on the character sheets either :(

comment How can I handle conflicts between my disdainful druid and characters who might provoke them?
I'm trying to figure out if you're playing out personal conflicts via your characters or are communicating out of character to try to better formulate in character solutions.

What is the interaction between the players at your table like?

comment Which Fighter (TWF Fighter vs. Great Weapon Fighter) is better optimized for Dealing Damage?
@MatthieuM. the verbiage is "once per turn." That seems to indicate that you can do it more than once per round. But it might be good to ask that as a question! Note that this question is specifically related to the fighter's class features. A TWF rogue stays competitive with a rapier rogue 1-19, but falls off the table a bit at 20.

comment How to choose between dual wielding and two hand weapon fighting
@eimyr I think I got an extra D on there, multi ability dependent, generally a character who needs 3 abilities, the melee cleric is one of the few 5e characters who needs even 2 (other than Con, everyone needs con)

@PaulHutton noted and updated. It's a bit more of a tradeoff then

comment Which Fighter (TWF Fighter vs. Great Weapon Fighter) is better optimized for Dealing Damage?
@MatthieuM. that's correct. No matter how many extra attacks you get, you only ever get 1 bonus action attack.

comment How to choose between dual wielding and two hand weapon fighting
@MonkeezOnFire K, that means the two choices are only different in how they use the action economy. TWF will use up your bonus actions.

Are you going to boost Str and Wis to 20 or are you going to take a feat related to your weapon choice?

comment Does 5e address the murderhobos problem?
@GMNoob if you stealth your way past an encounter, you've overcome it, but not necessarily defeated it.

There are also several spots in the Lost Mine adventure where you only get XP for killing the monsters. Don't have it with me, but I found it jarring.

comment How do you resolve a basic attack in D&D 5e?
@Aviose yeah, it's a good mechanic, and has solid meaning in game. It's just called something a bit misleading to a new player with no sense of the history. See: rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/44516/…

comment How do you resolve a basic attack in D&D 5e?
@WesleyMurch yes, all the monsters in 5e are listed with their average damage, and their dice expression. You can either roll the expression, or take the average that is listed. I choose to take the listed average to reduce dice rolling and speed up play, but also to normalize the hits a bit so that my goblins generally don't oneshot my wizard. I edited my previous comment, it's "your".

comment How do you resolve a basic attack in D&D 5e?
@WesleyMurch well, you get your max of your HD at L1, so there's no roll to be a problem there. But yes, if you're actually rolling monster damage, it is possible for the goblins to one-shot the wizard on a normal hit, and anyone else on a crit. That said, I've been using average monster damage to smooth this out a bit and I've found it to be quite fun (for goblins, that's the 5 listed on a normal hit and 9 on a crit).

comment How to get the PHB before release?
@doppelgreener as far as I know, SE has only sent out copies of the starter set, not the PHB.
