comment Differentiating between class level versus character level for alchemist discoveries
Aye that's why I want to double check. Granted there are other low/no prereq discoveries that I want, but the ability to grab explosive missile right away was tempting enough to double check the ruling on it for a PFS game.

Therein lies the question, since it specifically makes the differentiation for other discoveries, it still begs the question. It is a prereq and not internally consistent with its wording, hense the spontaneous healing example. It is a prereq to determine eligibility, not strength of a power.

I concur. Makes the archetype lackluster.

comment Is your character's ability to avoid attacks based solely on AC?
Whether you think it or not, the question is Is AC the only way for a character to avoid being attacked, or is there something else that I've missed that mentions it? And the answer is no, preparation/tactics and saves also are defenses used in combat to reduce/avoid damage, not just AC. Attacking isnt limited to physical melee or ranged, it includes magic as well.

A broader answer is that, yes, in order to cause any harm, a creature must meet or beat your defensive stats. Your main defensive stats are AC and Saves.

You are treating it as a special effect when it comes to that class feature. If it were a straight +X damage rather than a roll for sneak attack you would not fight for this. Sneak attack is part of the damage roll. Studied target is part of the damage roll. You are trying to apply logic of what sneak attack damage is abstracted to, to the actual game mechanic. You have an answer from the lead designer on how sneak attack damage works. There is nothing more I can add.
