comment On-the-Fly Crafting
Well, I get that, I make rulings on the fly all the time. But this is occurring more and more in my game, and it's never 100% clear to me. There isn't a crafting skill of any kind anymore. Sleight-of-hand COULD apply. A flat Dex check COULD apply. A flat Wisdom check COULD apply. There's a very large number of possibilities, so I was looking for some input on what other DMs have ruled or house-ruled in the past.

Also, it should be noted that ultimately the decision should be left to the DM. It never hurts to ask. 5e is very clearly more like 2e and 3e than 4e, and while the emphasis in 4e was more centered on rules-adherance, one might infer from the overall voice of the 5e book that the rules should be treated as more flexible. Ultimately, though, it is DM's discretion.
