The four-pointed star used in D&D 4e powers is a unicode character: ✦ / ✦

comment How does one stop the rogue from trap checking every five feet
You should probably mention that thing about how he might've been burned by traps at some point, because the expectation difference could be relevant here. (GM isn't trapping much, player doesn't want to get caught ever.) Of course, if the GM is throwing in a lot of super dangerous traps, then the player's behaviour seems somewhat logical...

Related: How should GM deal with 'standing orders'? - one of the issues was a standing order to constantly search for traps, secret doors, and so on. Not directly applicable here though, considering how your player's behaving.

And that the answerer has mentioned they're not playing D&D.

comment Prop Coins: what denominations should I buy to get started?
I feel pretty sure this is on topic. It takes having played D&D 5e to know what coins you're going to need, and whether investing in any amount of copper or silver is remotely worth it, and whether the gold coins in question could measure up to the scale of spending involved. An experience-based answer would talk about which coins were used often in the author's games, which were almost entirely neglected or not worth dealing with, which coins they sorely needed more of, and so on - and how situations may have varied. That won't come out of a mathematician with no at-the-table experience.

You have a reference to Loren Pechtel's answer at the beginning there, which no longer makes sense in this question. (Also, Loren may not be a he; might be more appropriate to use the neutral singular 'their answer' if you still want to refer to it.)

comment What effect does combining Mithril and an Armored Kilt have on armor category?
@AGuest SKR skipped over one fact there though: mithral does not change the armor's category, it just means it's treated as if it is a lighter category for certain purposes, such as determining your movement speed limitation. Hence still requiring heavy armor proficiency for mithral full plate. So its: "heavy armor + mithral = heavy armor treated as medium for all but proficiency." Hence Mourdos's opening statement that the chain shirt becomes medium treated as light for all but proficiency.

added this sentence, as it's brought up later, hence a relevant part of mithral

comment How do I approach the probability of a d100, using 2 d100's?
This has a compounding effect on trying to pass high skill checks due to the bell curve. See this anydice example considering the example of 3 skills at 80 each, with a combined score of 240. With 3d100, there's only a 3.78% chance you'll score above that score. With 1d300, there's a 20% chance, the same chance as 1d100 with one of those skills at 80. The odds are equally distorted at the other end (where three skills are at 20, you're extraordinarily unlikely to roll beneath them). The bell curve makes this not seem like a good method.
