comment How to get players to get familiar with the rules?
I'm just going to mention there are roleplaying games (other than D&D) in which this "story over rules" thing isn't really a problem (in part because the rules aren't getting in the way of the story to begin with), in which some of your players - such as that one - may have more fun. You have enough rep to join us in chat, if you want to learn anything about that.

comment What are the mechanics of removing a “create an advantage” aspect?
Let's assume they already understand it's a narrative game. It's on point to say you need narrative justification & to explain what's going on in the story. But, okay, we've got narrative justification and know what we're doing in the story - could you explain what mechanics we leverage at that point? You're saying stuff like "it costs a turn", and "call for a roll", and never reinforce how to use the overcome action well which will probably just confuse readers. Can you talk about the mechanical knowledge you're drawing those decisions from?

This looks kinda like the Fate Gremlin got into this answer: someone's asking about how the mechanics are involved, but you're explaining "fate's a narrative game, so whatever makes narrative sense" while not adequately covering how the mechanics are involved.

comment Can I have a character that's a soul bound onto a construct, without homebrew?
@Warmasternick Yeah, this is a fair & good question to ask as an introduction to warforged being a thing. Many people are already aware of it, so it's kinda easy to forget there's a lot of players yet to discover them - especially new players. :)

@HeyICanChan Yeah, I was editing this thinking warforged was probably what the Warmasternick was looking for, but all signs suggested he was also completely unaware of them, or like any other genuine in-rules option for a living construct.

There are options that come immediately to mind for how to have this as a character, though I'll leave it to the actual D&D 3.5e experts to explain -- they'll no doubt be offering such suggestions in a day or two, or else I'll be setting a bounty and then you'll see them. Is the process of creating one of these things via spells/rituals/whatever also an important thing for you to know about? Or is it good enough if there's just an option that says "here's how to have a soul-bound living construct character"?

Ok, so you're trying to make a living construct with a soul bound to it, for a player character?

Is this for the purpose of making a player character, a monster/NPC (from a GM point of view), an ally/creation (from a player point of view), or something else?

comment What is the meaning of the term “natural 20”?
@Tritium21 I edited out that cite you added (it implied that was the definitive source, when the natural 20 has been showing up since AD&D in various ways) but now I recognise what you were going for with it. If this needs an external cite - I don't think it's necessary - we should go for something that just provides one of the editions as an example (and makes it explicit it's an example).

the natural 20 showed up as early as AD&D. not much meaning linking the words "in D&D" to 3.5e's SRD specifically.
