The four-pointed star used in D&D 4e powers is a unicode character: ✦ / ✦

comment Does the Blistering Flourish bonus apply to both hits and effects?
Fair Use allows us to do that actually. If we're discussing a work, Fair Use allows us to reproduce the parts of the work vital to our discussion, as long as (a) it's reasonably small and not an excessive quantity, and (b) won't impact the copyright owner's ability to sell their product. Quoting a couple of powers being discussed is Fair Use. I'm not sure what license you're referring to: we're readers and players with books, not publishers or redistributors. Could you provide that license? If not, I intend to roll this back to the version with the powers - or at least quote their text.

comment Basic D&D without play map and miniatures
@GMNoob I'm concerned about the tag edit of adding [dnd-5e] - did the author say they were playing that? (It looks like there might be some comments that have disappeared.)

Thanks - I'll revise later when I have access to my books.

@Wesley Well, that's the key here: what do you put it in? Something frightening hopefully. An apex predator. Like a dragon! (cue this thread.) A suggestion of a frightening beastie with superintelligence for some reason would be a helpful version of this, for instance.

comment How should I handle a door the players know is trapped, but the characters don't?
I've edited your question title - the title seems pretty generic, but your question just seems primarily concerned with solving how to handle a single concrete scenario.

the title is pretty generic, but the question only seems to be diving into one scenario

I don't have the book that power's in, and it seems I don't have the full picture of what you're describing. Could you quote that power in your question?

comment Ex-wizard that pretends he still is a wizard
@HugoRune, that should be in the question. As is, this answer actually makes a good point, even if it needs to expand on it (I think), if you are indeed a Wizard who's simply lost their casting.

These are big beasties, but I'm not sure many of them actually meet the individual criteria. (Especially the Asian dragons: we've seen dragon ball, they're still totally dragons. But the dumping some bits together is valid enough.)

Probably not, but that would be that host species being the issue, not the Goa'uld. And if the Goa'uld needs to be in something frightening to be frightening, using Goa'uld doesn't move us forward.

comment How do I calculate the chance of hits?
Indeed, new answers are always fine. However, I'm concerned: this answer doesn't actually appear to answer the question of how one calculates the chances. Those tables are also super nice, but the substance of this answer being links is... problematic, because the answer becomes useless when the links go dead. Are you able to address the question directly in the content of your answer?
