comment How would I handle the mechanical repercussions of removing alignment?
As you write it, it looks like you consider "lawful"="respecting local law", while it should be more of a mindset, not specific.

"Put all the characters in a big pit and let them beat the crap out of each other"

Forcing them into an arena is incredibly lame, especially since it's not needed: just let them stab each other anywhere they happen to be! Why the arena?

I'm not sure I understand. If a player tries to kill another one during an encounter, either the GM cheats, or the target (or the whole party!) should most certainly die. How can this be going on for over 1 year without them becoming extinct?

comment How to deal with a player who doesn't understand party roles?
+1 while this is a good answer, I think @PipperChip's "give him explicitly some task to do" advice is something they likely haven't tried and might be more helpful. If that doesn't work either, then kill him.

comment Should I allow a Wondrous Item on level 1 character creation?
I was already mostly convinced, and you had me at "abandoned as a baby with a magic item by his parents to help him hide' is arguably more interesting and gives you all kinds of crazy plot hooks"

comment How should I handle retconning (or not) a session with a drunk player and character deaths?
Sure! I think that unfortunately these in-game retcons are even worse than a fiat out-of-game one, since they are fiat anyway, and the in-game tie is pretty fake.

comment How do I help my players not get caught up on smaller plot points?
@valadil this is very good, but the actual answer says something different. I'd be happy to revert in case it is rewritten with this in mind :)

comment Simulating samurai duels in Pathfinder
I don't think there's any sane way to do such a thing with the d20-system. I'd just change the system altogether. I might elaborate into an answer if nobody else does.

-1 Feels a bit like cheating to me :/ i.e. "whatever you do, you end up in the main plot". Pretty bad railroading, entirely stripping any sense from the players' decisions.

This is patently the correct answer, I'm puzzled about how it received such a negative reaction...
