I’m a thirtysomething dad and IT professional living in the Austin, TX area. I started gaming way back in the day, 1982, with the TSR space opera game Star Frontiers. Since then I've been an avid roleplayer. I went to 5 Gen Cons, was a regional Triad for the RPGA's Living Greyhawk campaign, helped start a gaming club (the FORGE) in Memphis, TN, et cetera.

I GM and play a variety of RPGs; currently Pathfinder is in heavy rotation as well as various non-D&D-based games.

comment How do I support an anxious friend's introduction to Role-Playing?
Is this not an effective duplicate of rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/4457/… ("my friend" vs "me" being the change)?

comment What reason would there be for a ruler to forgo having himself resurrected?
Hey guys - this isn't a "brainstorm list of possible plot hooks why." Answers that are just "oh one cool made up reason is X" deserve burnination.

comment Recommendation for first-time-ever RPG group
To answerers - if this gets changed into a "how do I get started," then your answers might be on topic. We have other questions like that. This is a game-rec so far, and answers that don't fit that will be going away. This isn't "chat about noob help."

comment Recommendation for first-time-ever RPG group
The answers to this have been bad so far because the question's poorly scoped. @OlivierH please consider that there are thousands of extant RPGs and that we only allow game-rec questions on the site when they're pretty specific. Look around at other game-recs for other discussions of games and see if you can clarify.

comment What are the advantages and disadvantages of develop in play (DIP) compared to develop at the start (DAS) character generation?
@Javafueled, that comment doesn't really make any sense. There's people that do it all DAS or all DIP, just like people do all sandbox or all railroad but some people mix. If you have a larger point you should probably write an answer yourself.

comment What are the advantages and disadvantages of develop in play (DIP) compared to develop at the start (DAS) character generation?
@cr0m no, DIP and DAS are about your background. Of course, as a character moves forward they are, in character, making new background for their character. "Remember when we all went to Thornkeep?" "You mean, right now?" But "Now I say I'm originally from Chicago! And this vampire's my brother. I just made that up" is not in character activity, because it is not within a character's power. It is authorial and thus by definition metagame activity.

comment How can I encourage role playing in a custom setting?
This seems like several different questions in one - roleplaying in 4e at all and then roleplaying in a custon (and hence less known) setting. Have you had better results in non-custom settings that leads you to believe setting's really the issue?

comment How can I get people to play a “diceless system”?
Question reopened and answers deleted. You should be answering based on real experience (the Back It Up! principle, see blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/09/good-subjective-bad-subjective. If you haven't done this, please don't answer with your theoretical musings on the subject. I'm sure many people have convinced their group to try a game outside their comfort zone, answer with what's worked in practice.
