I’m a thirtysomething dad and IT professional living in the Austin, TX area. I started gaming way back in the day, 1982, with the TSR space opera game Star Frontiers. Since then I've been an avid roleplayer. I went to 5 Gen Cons, was a regional Triad for the RPGA's Living Greyhawk campaign, helped start a gaming club (the FORGE) in Memphis, TN, et cetera.

I GM and play a variety of RPGs; currently Pathfinder is in heavy rotation as well as various non-D&D-based games.

Definitely, in fact browse the new-players tag and then ask more questions about the problems you're having!

comment What role-playing games don't feature experience?
Hey Bob. See meta.rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/1475/…. There are thousands of extant RPGs and I would venture to say at least a third of them don't have XP per se. Some do advancement in other ways, some don't have advancement. We frown on list questions here, and you see the start of a hundred-long list below. If you can be more specific about what you want and why, what problem you're trying to solve? A game like X without XP, or different kinds of XP-less advancement mechanic?

comment Betrayed by my GM; how can I respond?
That seldom works, because the situation is rarely as clearcut and one-sided as the questioner here depicts.

comment What are the commonly accepted definitions of reskinning and refluffing?
+1, refluffing and reskinning are identical terms for replacement not affecting mechanics. Reskinning is used more frequently specifically in reference to characters and monsters following the computer-game usage of skinning (character models) . SSD is leading that poor questioner astray. Changing a monster or whatever is "modding", homebrewing or just... Changing. I've never actually heard the word "refluffing" used, just reskinning.

The big Warhammer baddies are Tzeentch, Nurgle, Khorne and Slaanesh... Poke around in warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Warhammer_40k_Wiki and see if that rings a bell.

comment Save against a spell thought to be harmless
IMO it's also gamist legalism without any in-world explanation - dissociated mechanics are for 4e not Pathfinder. But, to each their own.

a) that doesn't make your answer less wrong and b) that one's wrong too.

I think this is linguistic acrobatics not supported by anything else. So if you have a spell that has random good/bad results, you get to wait to see if you roll good? Or something like a witch's healing hex than can only affect someone once a day - "Oh wait I rolled low on the healing, resist and we'll try again?" The legion of unintended consequences here is huge.
