I’m a thirtysomething dad and IT professional living in the Austin, TX area. I started gaming way back in the day, 1982, with the TSR space opera game Star Frontiers. Since then I've been an avid roleplayer. I went to 5 Gen Cons, was a regional Triad for the RPGA's Living Greyhawk campaign, helped start a gaming club (the FORGE) in Memphis, TN, et cetera.
I GM and play a variety of RPGs; currently Pathfinder is in heavy rotation as well as various non-D&D-based games.

What are some proven methods of generating attachment to locations/objects in a campaign? A big warning about this. If it's clear that the only reason the PCs get anything valuable is to threaten it, they'll stop. And if you threaten stuff they don't care enough about, they'll both not care and be disincentivized from caring in the future. Threatening it can be fun on occasion with stuff they're attached to, but mentioning it in the context of "how do I get people to attach" is dangerous and faulty. |

Systems with a dice mechanic that handles very easy and very difficult tasks Right, not intended to apply to the comments above. An answer and associated comments were deleted that focused on how the OP's goal is bad. A polite comment noting alternative approaches (consider not doing sim resolution at all, consider removing dice rolling in the interest of time) would be fine, of course. |

Do role-playing games have to be fun? Question reopened. Please use real world examples in your answers, this won't be useful if the responses are just a long forum thread like list of everyone's random opinions on this topic. |

Systems with a dice mechanic that handles very easy and very difficult tasks Luckily all the argumentative responses were largely confined to one answer and its comments, which is gone now. You each get one polite "I don't think this is a valuable goal" comment up here on the Q if you want, but more than that is argumentative, off topic, and unhelpful. |
