comment Can we add trains in D&D without breaking the world
If you're adding trains at the beginning of a campaign, you wouldn't even need to change the economy from RAW - those numbers just become the "after" (and presumably stuff was more expensive in the before-times)

comment How do I roleplay an intelligent character?
@Yandros That could be a mismatch of expectations, though - just because PCs are supermodel astrophysicists doesn't mean the players will enjoy solving physics equations while showing off this season's new swimwear. ;)

comment How do I roleplay an intelligent character?
@Yandros The flip side of that is you can end up punishing a player for not being as smart as his character. (to use the classic example, you don't force the fighter's player to carry 200 lbs before he can use his high STRENGTH)

Even with adapting, I'd be hardpressed not to pick 250 - you can plan for a lot of contingencies with an extra 100 points.

comment How many editions of Dungeons & Dragons are there?
@Pulsehead From most groups I know, 3.0 is treated separately from 3.5 due to the number of breaking changes. (They are both "d20" systems, of course.)

comment How do I handle lengthy (days+) actions without slowing the game
It sounds like there's two questions here - how do you handle crafting in time-sensitive adventures vs. what do the other players do while the Magical Widget is being crafted.

comment What alternatives are there for replacing the D&D memorize and forget magic rules
+1 for pointing out that there are a lot of classes that do get spontaneous casting. There's even a couple on the divine side to replace Cleric (Favoured Soul and Healer)

comment What are the most important errata for a new D&D 4E group?
It's been a while since I've looked at the 4E stuff, but they should be keeping their errata up to date. (Not sure if you can download entire books though.) Best of luck!

@Eilleen If memory serves, between the Compendium and Insider, you should be up-to-date ruleswise. (And don't forget rule #0 - the DM is always right!)

comment What ebook readers work well with roleplaying PDF?
+1 for iPad+GoodReader as well - it's my preferred method of keeping multiple references handy on the go. (At home I'll use the paper copies.) Worth mentioning that I have a 1st gen iPad, and it still works perfectly in this role.

comment Are the money pumps described in Harry Potter and the Natural 20 legal under 3.5 rules?
@TimLymington OTOH, they don't give a sell price, so I could see it being more a DM fiat rather than RAW. (And if I put on my player hat, I'd argue that someone is buying it for 1sp/lb, so why wouldn't they pay me that much?)

comment Encouraging players to not cheat the item purchase system?
First thought - a blacksmith who takes a bunch of junkyard scrap is exceedingly unlikely to end up with a "really expensive shield".
