More of a computer RPGer than a tabletop player ... my tabletop experience is from prior decades. I visit the site more from topical interest than anything else these days.

Is there a tool to make custom character sheets? or Acrobat Pro; you could set up a form in that as well, but it's still a general program and also not free. |

I'm building a science fantasy settlement in a harshly extreme environment; how do these guys survive without natural resources? @Adriano: there may be a purification plant on the surface (maybe the civilization was both above and below ground at one point, but the surface-dwellers were killed off somehow), or the vents may be located in an area where living quarters can't be established. Maybe the planet's ecology changed, and the land-based inhabitants suddenly found themselves on a planet with 90% surface water. Maybe this is a test for an interplanetary colonization effort, and over time, people forgot what the test was. |

Where does a thrown weapon land after a missed attack? not just innocent bystanders, but not-so-innocent ones as well, perhaps? Tight formations vs. loose ones ... is it easier to hit something in a bunch, or is that offset by the fact that you don't have a fixed target as you would with an individual opponent and thus are simply firing into the air? |

When and how should I get the players to cut back on their out of character chatter? We've expanded that idea a little: making it a day rather than just an evening, so that the game starts at, say, 7, but dinner is at 5 and people are welcome at 3 to hang out or play other games or whatever. We get most of our socializing done before gameplay starts ... the only trick is making sure we get started on time (or else we're back to "how do we cut back on OOC chatter?"). Of course, not every group has the time to add a few extra hours for each session ... |

Transitioning from GM to Player; or how to recover from GM burnout Advice isn't always looked at or accepted as positive, even if it's meant that way. If they come to you for help, that's great, but if they don't, it may be difficult to give it to them in a way that ensures they'll make the most of (or even consider) your advice. |

How can I encourage my D&D Encounters group to do more role playing? @Chris: there are exceptions, though few in number. An audience not inclined to participate or unsure as to why a question's being asked may simply wait for you to continue. With a group like that, it might not hurt to seed it with someone who can also role-play a bit. If no one else volunteers, this person can speak up in character, and that might encourage others to do the same. |
