I have no idea what the commenters are discussing here. Magician, lots of good ideas. I've looked for official MM3+ damage math in the errata files, but haven't found anything - do you have a link or directions? It's really annoying/lazy that they haven't even updated monster stats in the online compendium. I had a stackxchange question about monster damage a while back - the closest/best thing I got was a table from Chris Perkins' blog.

Look to Shepherd Book from Firefly for inspiration :) - Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin'? - Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.
