What happened to the second question? I thought the point was to give HIMSELF another MBA against the other player? Why would he use the power to attack himself?

Unrelated, but for a 4th Edition party, there's quite a large level discrepancy between the highest and lowest player. It could really hamper your adventuring.

@Discord: It's very heavily implied that they morally "should" bring her home and they'll certainly do it. But it's a good point, and I'll make sure to word it so that they don't actually HAVE to in order to get what they need from her.

First of all, he couldn't know this by memorizing the MMs, since the monster in question was custom made. Second, he had prepared for this situation beforehand, and when I tried to go "I don't think you can do that" his asking me if the boss was immune was a way of calling bullshit on me. I know I could've just lied to the player and said yes and that would've been that, but it would have been immensely unfair to the player.

Clarified that the player was 100% within RAW.

@KRyan But won't that obviate the point of skill checks altogether once the group reaches a certain level? If the group faces an arcane lock, the wizard automatically disables it. If the group needs to identify a poison, the shaman automatically does so. If the groups needs to move a heavy boulder, the fighter automatically does so. It seems to me that if there's no chance of failure, the skill-part of the game ceases to be a challenge?
