comment Mapping software for 2D universe maps
@Rob: dot/graphviz is used by doxygen to generate UML diagrams from the code. It is invaluable in writing correct documentation but that is moving away from the original problem ^_~

comment Which technologies/commodities were available during the 30s in the USA?
Please do not take the flurry of comments as anything negative. I, for one, welcomes questions such as yours and with small expansions, it would make a great question indeed.

comment Dark Ages/Middle Ages marriage age?
+1 great answer. Thank you. Do you have any sources as to how often second (or third) marriages were due to the death of the wife after complications from a pregnancy?

For random maps, you could use an undirected graph random generator.

The atlas of the universe site has some maps that you can use. This article has links to Cambridge university's project to map out a billion-odd stars. There are many other such maps but that is real life and not random.

comment Difference between writing a one-off scenario and writing a quest for a campaign?
A very good point indeed but those may detract from the main plot thus adding time to the game. Also, players do not see the difference between relevant plot points and future plot threads so can mistaken one for the other.

comment How to run an encounter where PCs have different observations of the same events?
@BrianBallsun-Stanton: Okay, now that would make a good question: "How would you translate Rashamon into a one off game?". Can you ask it?
