What's a good system/setting for an X-Files style campaign? @Quentin: That's a good point. Pelgrane Press publishes several games using the same system (Gumshoe), and I forgot to mention them. Another one is The Esoterrorists, which also uses a modern-day setting. |

Software for adding atmosphere via music and sounds In that case, you might want to wait a bit before accepting this answer, to encourage others to suggest tools specifically tailored towards sound effects. |

Software for adding atmosphere via music and sounds I haven't yet had the chance to test it on tablets. My guess is that using an on-screen keyboard to control it will not be optimal or even possible depending on how the keyboard works. The visual playback interface that I have planned should make tablet use easier. The application itself is designed with the assumption that both sound and visuals are used, so it has some features that might be in the way if all you want is a soundboard. |

Software for adding atmosphere via music and sounds I would say that it's not a duplicate, given that it doesn't actually ask for software to play sounds but rather for advice on how those sounds should be used to improve the game. |

How do I help my players get past an obstacle I didn't intend? @dpatchery: From my reading of your question, it seems that the players have already tried to get through the door by wording more specific wishes. Regardless of the details of your specific scenario, however, I would suggest that you listen carefully to what your players are planning and then improvise a solution that matches the idea they come up with. This is basically another instance of the famous "Yes, and" method from improv acting: follow along with what your co-actors are doing in order to make the scene better. |

How can I add story to every encounter so that they don't seem like I'm just piling monsters on the characters for xp? Do you mean "story" in the sense that the encounter ties into your overall campaign arc, or "story" in the sense that the encounter involves something more than just defeating the enemies? |

Gumshoe/Lorefinder - how do you deplete a Boost? Actually, there is no concept of a boosted skill in Trail of Cthulhu. As far as I can tell, there is no such thing in Esoterrorists either, so I'm not sure it's actually part of the full Gumshoe system. |

How do I design a Christmas-themed horror adventure? @Mikalichov: Then it seems you would take issue with a great deal of the questions about GM techniques on the site. Note that I'm asking for advice on running a Christmas adventure, not for a list of Christmas adventure ideas. As for asking about many answers, it would seem odd to ask for any fewer answers than you can get. After all, we're looking for the best answer, not the first good answer. |
