How do I keep NPCs from just sounding the alarm? Good point about the alarm not always mattering. And if I put a noisy klaxon on endless loop as soon as the alarm is sounded, the players will be more careful next time. ;) |

How do I keep NPCs from just sounding the alarm? This is a fun idea and it seems especially suitable for games inspired by action movies, where the guards always seem to check things out by themselves instead of sounding the big alarm right away. |

How do I keep NPCs from just sounding the alarm? My main problem with suspending disbelief is that it makes decision-making difficult for the players. If the world doesn't mostly work consistently and logically, they can't use logical reasoning to make decisions, and everything will become more arbitrary. Decision-making based on logical reasoning is especially important in stealthy scenarios, so that's why I want to suspend disbelief as little as possible. |

Campaign is on hiatus. How do I keep it on life support? These are good suggestions for the actual restart of the campaign, but I feel the question is more about the time in-between when there is no gaming at all. Keeping the campaign alive during this time is the real challenge. Do you have any suggestions on how to handle that? |

How to tastefully convey racism in RPGs? Before including racism in your game, make sure that all of your players are okay with it. If they aren't, don't include it. Every D&D player expects non-graphic violence as a part of the game, but other themes will go beyond what some players consider an enjoyable evening of play. These include racism but also sex, torture, and drug abuse. Err on the side of caution, because some players will feel uncomfortable without showing it. The best way to find out what suits your group is to discuss it in private with each player beforehand. |

How can I add sound to our sessions? Now that the cat is out of the evilcandybag, I've uploaded the application to Github for everybody's benefit. I've also written a separate answer to this question incorporating it. github.com/JakobKallin/RPG-Ambience |

How to add a player who joined after the campaign started? I think you should add to your question the comment that the players get along fine outside the game, so that other users understand the social situation a bit more as well. |

How to add a player who joined after the campaign started? It's funny that you would link to that video to prove your point, because the video also points out the extreme silliness of random chance allowing a much less competent character to succeed while a trained character fails. I very rarely hear gamers decry d20 skill checks, though, or refusing to play because of them, so I would not use "silliness" as the main criteria for judging something in the game. We are, after all, silly enough just sitting around a table pretending to be wizards with pointy hats. ;) |

How does D&D Encounters work? I added the bounty in part because I wanted some more information but mainly because I wanted to see if other people had a different understanding or perspective. Regardless, I like your updated answer. |
