comment How valid is lying to players about the rolls they are making in The Dresden Files?
There are many games that put strict definition on the GMs role. "GM tells the story" is a popular assumption, but not an guarantee.

comment D&D 4 - does it suffer as much drift / house-ruling as previous versions? (Primarily 3 and 2)
vanilla and pervy have been abandoned as terms by their creators, plus do nothing but confuse the issue here.

comment What is the full list of official Wizards of the Coast D&D settings?
I believe that Blackmoor is part of the Mystara setting in TSR Products. There's a 3rd party book on the original Blackmoor setting, which is different, and I believe portions of it are included in Greyhawk as well.

comment What happened in the Forgotten Realms between 3.5 and 4e?
What parts of the geographic change are "in world changes" vs "out world changes"? I recall WOTC saying that the map was condensed to have more land and less sea, but that this was not a physical change -- the world has retroactively always had the new shape.

comment Good first “indie” rpg to try out?
There are two theories of adoption -- one is to find a game very close to traditional, so there are fewer barriers to adoption. The other is to find a game as far from traditional as possible, so you aren't tempted to fall back on old habits. Which are you looking for?

While I love Risus, I don't think it serves as a "gateway drug" into the style of gaming often associated with the word "indie".

comment How do you optimize in 1st Edition AD&D?
Hmm... no judgement was meant -- this is just the closest I can think of to "powergaming" for AD&D. (Other than lying about your stat rolls and having a monty haul GM.)

Both games are good for changing player rosters. (I've edited the post to clarify.)
