comment Beyond hit points: injury in D&D
@yhw42 - You can make tables with patience and the "Code Sample" button. As I understand it that's the officialish policy on tables-in-answers for Stack Exchange sites.

+1 That seems pretty solid.

@yhw42 - ... but the same can be said of automatic failure. And the probabilities are also a bell curve; you have almost a 10% chance of rolling a 10, around a 9% chance of rolling 9 or 11... so if your check would succeed on a 10, you're looking at almost a 60% chance of success. So in the end you succeed at your trained skills etc more often and fail at other things you're not trained in more often.

This is very comfortable for the Americans who would say "three-zee-eight" but for non-Americans "three-zed-eight" doesn't flow as nicely ;)

I like the answer, but dice notation is to be read by normal people, not computers nor software developers. Using the set syntax... you might as well write it out in words! :P

Sorry un-accepting in the hopes of attracting more answers now that we're no longer in private beta.

+1 for "Should it be more fun that suck?" Very well stated.

I'm defining 'fun' as 'enjoyable', not necessarily laugh-and-giggling fun. I'm not familiar with "A flower for Mara". Can you tell me about it?

* awkward! * In retrospect I feel like this answer comes out of a sex-ed class.

comment What is the meaning of the “bardic lore” skill?
I find the Wikipedia on Griots (African Bards, in simplest terms possible) sheds some interesting light on this kind of interpretation of Bards.

You run games with your kids? That's wonderful :D

"If they are enjoying themselves then you're doing a good job" => this is true, but the GM - while not a player - is also playing the game and is entitled to enjoy it; they don't just have a job to do. If the GM's not getting any satisfaction out of running a Butt-Kick the players should try to tweak their style some.

comment Total Party Kill - What do I do as a GM?
+1 for the necromancer idea! I've always wanted to run that... and they don't have to get along with him; it's also interesting if they are compelled to get along with him, but if he was dead, they'd be free of his influence...
