I've recently completed my MSc Computer Science from a UK institution, and have moved back to the US to begin work. I write in my spare time, enjoy cooking, and apparently am addicted to signing up for SE sites :).

comment How can I use a frame story and keep a sense of danger and mystery?
+1 for resurrection magic. Plenty of game groups refuse to perm-kill the PCs, but there's still a sense of danger and excitement without that.

comment What is the difference between these Player's Handbooks?
I would go off the word "Premium" myself. Or the fact that it was released in 2012 instead of 2003, indicating it's a newer reprint.

comment How to help players who roll really badly?
Just to point out, I've had the exact same problem with a dice pool system: rolling, say, a 6 dice pool, one guy consistently gets 4-10 successes (using 10-again) and another tends to get 1-3 tops.

It looks like those books have a series of tables to roll on? I'm looking for more of a Q&A type thing.

I assume that's cWoD? I don't remember seeing those in nWoD last time we played but I may have just missed a chapter somewhere

@Francesco I'm not sure you're picturing Withdrawing correctly, it's not like, terminator walking or anything. You're escaping as quickly as you can without smacking into other enemies, hazards, et cetera.

comment How do I encourage a GM to use the rules as written?
@TimothyAWiseman Sure, but sometimes it's alright to loosen standards. I've seen people go from DnD to systems like BESM and freak out at how easy it is to build a shapeshifter character, for example, expecting Polymorph cheese.

comment Star System Summary Sheets
You could probably create one in Word with very little trouble. That's what I always end up doing for my freeform games, with the caveat that I've moved to Google Docs so I can share with other players.

comment How to deal with lack of downtime as a wizard?
@JohnAthanasiou Are you playing out the spell scribing? I'm confused as to how the party members are sitting around doing nothing instead of just skipping past the boring bits to the next interesting part. I play a similar type of character in a different system, and we tend to just literally start a session with "After two days, Erika has her new item crafted and you guys are ready to go break into the museum." There's no downtime for people to get squirrelly during.

Roll For Shoes looks amazing! I've alredy got Savage Worlds, GURPS, Pathfinder, and FATE on my splat list, but this looks like a nice spread from which certainly I'll find something workable. Thanks!

How does it not keep the action going to say "Three days later, the wizard has his new spell and the plot hook happens" as opposed to "The next morning, the plot hook happens"?
