comment Dealing with difficult male players, when you're a new female player?
@mikeagg To be fair, the DM might not know the sexist player is sexist; Sexism is often invisible to those who aren't directly affected by it; because they're not around when it happens, because they lack the context to recognise it for what it is, because it's infrequent enough that they they just don't notice... But assuming he does notice and lets it continue, you're right: He might not someone you want to be friends with.

comment Ways to learn whether a magic user knows a certain spell
It occurs to me that just persuading the target to say whether or not they know the spell could work - As could all standard means of extracting information from an unwilling NPC, such as zone of truth and so on.

Drat, that puts paid to my "Sit back with a good book" answer, then. Would you be open to answers that require the possession of particular artefacts?

comment Is there some way to skip or negate dead levels?
This is the correct answer. Otherwise a disturbingly large number of characters in short-term campaigns would skip straight from level one to level seventeen.

You should edit the explanation that it's to do with what the rolls represent, and the quote, into your answer.

@SteveJessop I think I account for that possibility in the last paragraph of my answer - So I suspect I'm misunderstanding you. What improvement are you suggesting?

You should edit that into your answer; Comments are deleted periodically. And adding a summary of the general thrust of your answer at the beginning or end would help ward off downvotes.

This is good advice (+1), but onyl addresses the case of a railroaded campaign (-1). Net +0.

@thatgirldm Gah, somehow I thought you and Bradd Szonye were the same person. I have no idea how I made that mistake. In any case, I think it's that your wording implies immutable limits, rather than optional ones, that has led to your answer not having as many upvotes as some others.

Welcome to RPG.SE! The core of your answer - that a ranger's literary origins are more soldier-y and that a scout's are more hunter-y - seems good, but I recommend you edit this answer to make it a little more clear.

I don't think this is a bad question (and I've upvoted it accordingly) but I do think it's one that can only be answered by challenging its frame.

I suspect the OP is talking about the Scout and Ranger classes.
