comment How do I choose a Mood for my game?
It's just a subset of "What game should we play?": Use personal preference and listen to the opinions of your players.

comment How does Darkvision work beyond range?
Creatures that "see" using darkvision don't use light for it, so there isn't any logical reason why many of them would have any kind of light based vision at all.

comment How do I make it absolutely clear that I'm shooting you in the face?
There's a regular group that does this in the UK: firefight.org.uk I can't report on personal experience… yet.

comment How can a GM give treasure to DnD players who overcome challenges without combat?
D&D does not have sane rules for economics. I wouldn't let such things get in the way of a player describing what their character got up to in downtime.

comment What book can I read to familiarize myself with D&D 5e's world and lore?
D&D is a pretty flexible game. You'd be better off asking your DM for some recommended reading material as we can't know what sort of game he is running.

comment Are there any big, pre-made city campaign maps?
I'd probably use a Google image search for map 1800s Paris/London/Some other interesting city as a starting point.

comment Am I too new to try DMing once?
I'd be tempted to use a different system so that the other players don't have significantly better rules mastery than you and so that you don't run into conflicts with people complaining that the other GMs house rules are better (or thinking that those rules are RAW).
