"if you try to do a Tracking Spell for a deceased mortal the spell doesn't work" — do you have a source for that? I'd like to read the full explanation.

comment What's the difference between a ranged touch attack and a ray?
It had special meaning in 3.5, but I can't find anything similar for Pathfinder. I'd speculate it is a legacy of 3.5 that wasn't fully cleaned up. Hopefully someone can find some evidence and turn this into an answer.

comment What is a good Modern Fantasy investigative system?
Also worth looking at the Esoterrorists which is more-or-less the same game but with a slightly different focus.

comment How can I allow one character to sneak off and assassinate an NPC without boring the other players?
If you do introduce a Good Samaritan or other such contrivance, then you can introduce an alternative cost such as incurring a debt (the not so Good Samaritan) or replacing a trap that might have killed the character with one that enchanted them with a curse (perhaps one that allows the heir to track them down over time).

comment Roleplaying games for political intrigues, mass battles
I'd suggest DramaSystem, but I get the impression you want something where the crunch is focused on the Kingdom stats. Is that the case?
