How do significantly differing male and female lifespans change my setting? In Mass Effect, the Asari only have one gender. They can bond with other species to add genetic diversity to their offspring. I could imagine a world where Dryads reproduce similarly, but are able to bond with plants or animals as easily as people. This doesn't answer the question about your world, instead offering another. |

Does your initiative change if your dex changes? Funny, I would say, "Yes, but the initiative is used only to determine the initial order". Whether the Initiative modifier is changed doesn't really have an impact until the next Initiative Check, in which case it would use the new value. |

Should Merits be given as rewards when the accomplishments match? I agree that the expenditure of experience is what makes a house a home, so to speak. |

What 3–4 social skills would cover every need? For instance, have you looked at the nWoD? Your physical power, finesse, and resistance is determined by your traits for Strength, Dexterity, and Stamina. Similarly, your social power, finesse, and resistance are represented as Presense, Manipulation, and Composure. In this way, social (or intellectual) combat can be just as intense as traditional combat. |

How to have a realistic set of languages without making adventuring prohibitively difficult? I would use Human (English) as the trade language. I think it parallels nicely with the perception that English is the language of business, and the players would be able to do much of what they need when restricted to that vocabulary. Of course, securing an audience with a Dwarf King might be easier if you can show him the respect of speaking in his native tongue over the vulgar trade language. |

How well does “attractiveness” work as a stat? Appearance is often useful to define an NPCs inital reaction to encountering the player. Additional benefits can be acquired by beautiful players while introducing themselves to new people, and penalties could be applied to particularly ugly characters in those same situations. Of course if your character lacks substance, those initial benefits won't last very long. |
