I am surprised. I generally feel that 3-8 is a great range, and everything turns totally insane after L10 or 12 if you have a players who know the system.

Here's a list of 'spells that fvcking kill people'. If you learn one or two of those per level, you should be able to fill the remaining slots with whatever and still be a valuable, powerful addition to your party.
