comment What is a good mechanic for a test of will power?
I don't know any existing system, and haven't seen it applied in LARP, but my first thought would be a rock/paper/scissor thing.

Agreed. However it is not impossible. Scare them with stuff that dont kill them, but is just scary by itself. Think about it: how many times in your life have you been really scared of death? Now, how many times in your life have you been scared of grabbing a spider by its leg while it was still alive? How would you like being covered by a thousand of them?

Honestly, a big metallic spider shooting lasers from its eyes and killing walking trees is not scary. It's so fantastic and unreal that you get deconnected. You also know it's "just a monster". You should honestly try the zombie pool, sounds awesome. Make it so that slashing and hacking seems really useless, and all zombies are awake and grasping and pulling. And whispering stuff like "mommy... mommy... is that you...?"

comment What is the significance of a Basic Attack vs. any other sort of attack?
It took me months to even know there was something as a "Basic Attack". I thought you could only use your Powers, and played it as such.

comment Low-random, low-dice fantasy rpg system
"Generally non-heroic, but supporting such characters." VS "To quote mxyzplk: "Conan doesn't ask if he can leap up on Dagon's back and tear his horn out [...] He just does it." That's the type of gameplay I am looking for." Aren't these two incompatible?

comment How to emulate a Gadget of the Week power?
@leokhorn Whoops, my bad. Does 3e have the Fading flaw, where a Power starts degrading? In the example Permanent made it impossible to stop the Power once it starts; since the Powers inside the Variable have the same Duration as the Variable, they are Permanent too and can't be stopped/changed until the Variable end. Alternatively, you could just make the Variable changing action really large, like a couple of hours or something.

comment Tips and pitfalls for a variable-size group
So a regular character who is there every single chapter, and a cast of characters who appear often but not always... Isn't that the actual books' structure?

comment What are the differences between Shadowrun 3rd and 4th edition that I should know about?
It's hinted at in the core rules (wireless range of cyberware being 3m), but it's actually detailed in Unwired, p59. Wireless is just one way of linking devices. You can instead use cables or skinlink - meaning the hacker have to go grab the street samurai's chainsaw arm to try and hack it. Not the smart thing to do.

Actually, a good hacker can neuter a bad street sam :) A good street sam (or any other kind of PC actually) will desactivate his main commlink's wireless (think "plane mode"), making it absolutely unavailable to hackers. Unless they want to come and establish physical contact with it, of course.

Well, they do suffer from Fading, but in a different way.

And you sir, seem to be a good DM.

Yes, the amount of abstraction is very high in lot of recent games (DnD 4E, Cortex+), making adaptation difficult. I Find it interesting, but difficult anyway. I'm surprised by the Xivort's ability though. Is it really supposed to be just a net? Not a web-shooting, or similar?
