added roleplaying tag since that's the core of the issue

comment With the lifespan of elves, would you ever encounter a low-level elf?
@corsiKa Also a dog is capable of walking within days after birth and controlling his bowel movements within a few weeks/months. Neither of which is possible for a human. Yet, I'm not entirely sure this paradigm can be compared to the humans/elves case.

@einpoklum The first part of my answer is merely a joke that goes around about this situation (unless you mean sth else? sry it's late here :P) Also, you seem to assume that the only only skill one can learn is about "hitting stuff" or "knowing things that help you kill" which is rather incorrect. What I'm trying to say it that elves might as well be accustomed to spending all those decades in non-adventuring activities/training that they perceive as important.

@Dorian exactly! This is precisely the type of attitude I have in mind when thinking the elves. They have so much time available that, combined with their partial forest isolation in many cases, causes the majority of them to just not see a reason to rush something. They instead enjoy things a human has no time for.

@doppelgreener I do not believe that was necessary. The OP seems to be concerned over the mechanical meaning (hence mentioning level and exp) and impact of elven longevity, so the last query was probably meant to address a further issue of this topic, albeit in need of rephrasing possibly.

comment How bad is Sunlight Sensitivity (of Drow, etc.), especially for casters?
Or you can use save-based spells. The Acid-Splash cantrip is also a nice alternative to the commonly selected Firebolt, due to targeting different DC (Ref-Save vs AC) and being one extra type of damage that allows you to deal with more creatures.
