  • The best gaming advice: Talk to each other like reasonable adults.
  • Dice fudging is bullshit.
  • Ignoring rules is a sign that you're playing the wrong game.
  • Rather than hack on the rules of a game, stop to consider that a different game might better do what you want.
  • Rule Zero is bullshit.
  • System matters.

Brevity is characteristic of okeefe's answers. … It's a complete solution to the problem, in a small package. —SevenSidedDie

comment Is there any way to get/buy the “Fate System Toolkit” book?
Isn't it not out yet, except for a draft version? I'm sure it will become available when it's done.

comment Easy to GM Harry Potter RPG
I had some friends who used Dresden Files, but they did the conversion themselves. They made their own magical school with new characters, set in the same world. I'm not sure I'd call DF easy to GM, though.

comment Does injury affect the helping dice I grant to others?
The rules do make clear that if your exponent is down to 0 (due to injury, etc.) that you can't use it all, even for help.

This is an excellent question. Your best bet for an answer would be to ask on the Burning Wheel's First Reading forum.

comment Which is a good system for one-player Dungeon Crawls?
Here's an overview of other D&D retro-clones, although I don't know of their suitability for one-player games. I'm hoping someone else will chime in.

comment Knocking out NPCs
Personally, I'd just use Stealth to keep it simple. I'm assuming Stealth and Thievery are the primary skills, with a dash of whatever else makes sense; ask the players what skills they want to use.
