  • The best gaming advice: Talk to each other like reasonable adults.
  • Dice fudging and Rule Zero are bullshit.
  • Dungeon World is a better D&D than D&D.
  • Ignoring rules is a sign that you're playing the wrong game.
  • Metagaming is not a four-letter word.
  • System matters.

@Jonn_Underwood Kriegsspiel was published and translated into several languages, but not in the tabletop/board game sense, at least not initially. More information at http://www.kriegsspiel.org.uk.

comment How to motivate players without the promise of gold and XP?
Or it might not! If the players buy in and own their heartlessness, then you can work that into their future adventures. Or you could tell them that's not the kind of game you want to run. Talk to the players!

@BESW Not necessarily. Maybe he just wants to be a powerhouse with powers that affect, say, only two defenses. That can be viable as well.

Do you want to be versatile in combat?

comment Where can I find a non-Lovecraftian medieval religious horror game that will inspire dread in my players?
It doesn't sound like you want a one-shot game, otherwise I would suggest Montsegur 1244. You could appropriate its setting, however.

You can drop down to 1/3, 1/4, 1/6, and 1/8 CR, but the monster creation rules don't assume monsters that weak. I guess I would just use the fractional CR creatures as a guideline if I were coming up with my own.
