comment Can I substitute a d3 with a d6?
@GalacticCowboy: If that were true, dividing a d6 by 6 would still give you a d6 (in reality it gives you a d1). Dividing a d6 by 3 (and rounding up) gives you only two possibilities, 1 or 2, so d6 / 3 = d2. Notice that in Thomas's chart, 2: 4,5,6, but 6/2=3, not 2.

To simulate a d2 with a d6, you say "divide the results in half..", but it should be "divide by 3 (rounded up)".

comment What do I do when I suspect players may be fudging rolls online?
Here is one that works for skype. And here is one that emails its results to all players.

It is possible to create an online die-roller such that, with no central server, it is cryptographically infeasible for anyone to cheat, even if all players except for one collude. I have not looked hard, but I'm sure someone must have implemented this algorithm before. Here is one such project (though it is only an API, it doesn't have a GUI).

Why would you want to role-play going to the office?

comment How can I roll a character's age using only d6?
"The reverse bell curve is what you want, but I'm not sure how to produce it with d6s." - Take a bell curve (ex. sum n d6 and subtract n), add max/2, mod max. This essentially chops the bell-curve in half, and moves the left-half to the right of the other half.

This is the usual method to do similar calculations in software-development, and exactly the answer I was going to give. +1
