comment Reading material to present to completely new players
In the end, I decided to forgo any up-front reading material. I like the idea of Greg Stolze's primer, but I kinda hate the content. That may fit well for some people, but it wasn't what I was going for. Things went just fine with nothing but my own verbal explanations, and I think there may have been some advice in the primer that would be contrary to my own style/expectations. I think I'll take some time over the coming weeks and put together my own primer... more less what @BrianS was saying. I'd mark that as the accepted answer if I could.

If I had more time to prepare, I'd definitely go for it. As it is, I'd rather spend my limited amount of free time preparing for this meeting and organizing what I'll talk about in-person, rather than drafting supplemental reading.

comment Introducing new players to a Campaign
@Flotolk I totally get what you're saying, and I agree—sometimes it is better to find a way. But other times, in my experience, you end up twisting and stretching the situation to try and make all these impossibly disparate elements come together. In these cases, I find it less destructive to simply backtrack a little to a point where it makes more sense for the storylines to merge, and then collectively agree that that's the way it is, or was, or whatever.

Sometimes, retcons are okay. These two new characters didn't appear in the MIDDLE of the dungeon crawl... they joined up at the BEGINNING, when the two old characters left. All those things the two old characters did in the cave, that was those new characters, don't you remember? Most players are fine with a little bit of light handwaving, because in this particular instance, it has no real effect on the story. If everyone agrees, then the story hasn't changed at all. This is the way it's ALWAYS been...

comment How can I deal with a “goof-ball” player in my WoD group?
@TimothyAWiseman — that's true. The world is full of goofballs. But when faced with a life-or-death situation, they tend to "sober up". Players of goofball characters, being less invested in survival, may not. If they want to goof-off in front of the terrifying horde or BBEG, so be it... but they had best be prepared for the consequences.

comment Is it possible to actually kill a Tarrasque?
No such thing as "a" Tarrasque. There's only one of it, making it awesome enough to be THE Tarrasque.
