I'm a ruleslawyer from 3.5 D&D, but I've since branched out into many other systems. I currently play Pathfinder for the most part.

I believe that the GM's first job should be to know the rules. Games are much more fun when rules are selectively ignored or fudged, but it's important to know the implications of rules changes before making them.

comment What use is Skill Beyond Your Years?
Since feats cost 5000 XP, and Open Minded gives 5 skill points, my GM has houseruled that you can buy skill points for 1000 XP each, making this option slightly more viable.

@JonathanHobbs: While the wording might not be perfect, I'd rather go with the intent of a wish, if it's reasonable. As for why I would use the automiss rules in the first place: 1. I'm introducing people to roleplaying, and I'd rather not use houserules until they're familiar with the rules as they are. 2. The group I'm playing with generally likes the automiss rules, and would rather keep them. My point is mainly that if a wizard with Wish wants to ignore a minor world constraint, that's probably fine.

@JonathanHobbs: I absolutely agree, but if I'm not using a houserule like that, and the player could come up with a wording that was creative and got the point across, I'd be totally on board with a wish like this.

@SevenSidedDie: Maybe something like, "I wish that my spells would never fizzle.", while explaining out of game what mechanical effect he's going for. Honestly though, half of what would make me okay with it is the player coming up with an interesting wording that I haven't thought of.

Does this restriction on who can use fire only count for fire magic, or is mundane fire restricted as well? Do you need to be part of the elite to run a forge, for example, or have a hearth?
