Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Have been playing and GMing D&Ds from B/X to D&D 5e. Becoming a fan of indie games and the OSR in the mid 2000s expanded my horizons for both trad and indie games. Fond of GMless and short-form games that suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

@KRyan To be fair, this is non-intuitive even after reading the GM section, especially coming from games with a firewall between GMs and PC actions. But! to be doubly fair, any answers wouldn't make sense without having read the GM section.

There are circumstances where narrating a PC's actions becomes the GM's job, but I can't tell from what's written here whether the example is one of those circumstances or not.

@Gimble That's a convenient interpretation, but not an interpretation that the game will back up a player on against a DM. This is up to the DM's interpretation. (Besides, since when is a metal door bar "supposed" to be bent.)

comment German spell descriptions for DnD 5e?
@Alexis Using a translation is not the issue. Sharing the translation is a copyright violation, and we avoid enabling access to pirated material. It sucks, but that's an objection to the law, not evidence that it's legal.

@Avaro, which PC is falling unconscious and later getting healed in your example? Is it the monk, or the wizard?

Keep in mind that you can only sneak attack with finesse or ranged weapons, which excludes longswords.

(Anyone wondering about the copyright stuff around translations, these are good lay primers: Copyright in translations [US]; Translation and Copyright [Canada]. It will be similar in other Berne Convention nations.)

@Lexible All parts of the demiplane that are't already defined by the spell are going to depend on what kind of planar cosmology the DM has constructed; the spell demiplane isn't a special case or exception to that rule.

Actually, wait, I do take a stand in the footnote as I reread it. That's stronger than I really meant; I should edit that.

@BaconBits Again, that's why the answer says DMs are going to rule that bit about puddles/buckets/whatever differently, because of the additional need to interpret the meaning of the word "object". Can you cut up a page and have it still count as an undamaged object? What about a bucket of oil? What's the difference? (Hint: it's an unsolved problem in philosophy!) Since it's unclear (and currently insolvable anyway), DMs are within their rights to rule as they see fit on this, per use of the ability. I take no stand about that in the answer, just give a caveat emptor.
