Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Started playing with AD&D 1e and GMing with AD&D 2e. Ran D&D 3.x, 4e briefly, then became a fan of indie games and the OSR. Particularly fond of GMless and short-form games because they suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

comment Why are Dragons “Always X” alignment?
This is much improved... but you're hinging the entire argument on the word "reptilian" in the SRD. That can mean "actually a reptile", (sense 2 in the link), or it can mean simply "kinda like a reptile" (sense 1). The text is ambiguous, but I read it as meaning only reptile-like. Since it says "reptilian beast", the text is getting even farther away from saying "actually a reptile" and much closer to "reptilian in appearance". And furthermore, the SRD wasn't written by the creators of D&D dragons, so it's almost not relevant in the first place.

comment How can I create a megadungeon in a futuristic/post-apocalyptic setting?
In a post-apocalypse, maybe our current construction habits are a relevant impediment to plausible megadungeons. But in a futuristic setting, all bets are off. The future is pretty big.

I think your article "Making Good Flags" is worth linking here, especially for the section "The Trap of Non-Flags".

comment How can I help my players get into a vengeful mindset?
"I can only assume that..." Have you asked them if that's true, first? Character concepts skewed toward violence doesn't flag what a player wants in the game, it's what they think they'll need in the game. It can be a flag they want to murder, but it's just as likely to be insurance against being murdered.

comment Any rules or supplements for mass combat in Underwater or Aerial fantasy environments?
As for how to handle the question, don't settle for less! There's no harm in leaving a question open and unanswered—if a system gets designed in the future, an answer might come. If you don't get an answer soon enough, you can ask a separate question to find an abstract system that would do it.
