Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Started playing with AD&D 1e and GMing with AD&D 2e. Ran D&D 3.x, 4e briefly, then became a fan of indie games and the OSR. Particularly fond of GMless and short-form games because they suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

comment How do I escape the Quicksand Box?
@TimothyAWiseman Right. That's on the "they do like sandboxes" decision branch, but that wasn't clear the way I'd written it.

@thatgirldm I have to give the credit to Captain Awkward's excellent advice column for teaching me how to write scripts for difficult conversations.

comment How many creatures should face a party of 6 PCs?
@C.Ross That was my first guess, but getting my hands in there to edit it, I started to think that maybe they for some reason reject the idea of adding more creatures?

comment How to balance a very-low magic campaign
@Macona It's actually not that hard to do, in a technical sense. The hardest thing is overcoming "instincts" that no longer apply. It's actually pretty easy to run a low-magic campaign in d20 once you understand how to manage difficulty directly and ditch the CR system (which becomes a liability rather than a useful tool in this situation).
