Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Have been playing and GMing D&Ds from B/X to D&D 5e. Becoming a fan of indie games and the OSR in the mid 2000s expanded my horizons for both trad and indie games. Fond of GMless and short-form games that suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

comment Free-floating magical effects and planetary rotation
No to new users, no, but yes to unstructured questions. (Though "contemptuous" is not the right word either, since that implies it's a matter of emotion.) We just don't accept unstructured questions at all. In fact, we got an unstructured question two days ago from a very active and high-rep user, and promptly closed it too. As for downvoting people who answer when we know they know the question doesn't fit here, that's done because it's a bad habit that needs to be discouraged. (But won't shoot their rep to hell. It takes many downvotes to make even a small dent.)

comment Making weapon choices that count, and more realistic/interesting weapons
I think that any way to make weapon choice more important or more interesting including either official rules or every possible homebrew idea is extremely broad and (due to its unbounded nature) very opinion-based. The answers appear to be strong evidence in support of that evaluation. I've voted to close this, accordingly.

This has a lot of diverse questions in it. You would probably get answers much more quickly if you split this up into its separate questions and posted them each on their own.

comment Keeping track of in-game time, and multiple timed events
The scale is different, but I think the problem and its solution might be the same as in this question: How to keep track of campaign timeline? Do the answers there help you?

comment Is the value of currency significantly different between 4e and 5e?
@Jason_c_o Perhaps whether the currencies are worth the same wasn't the question you needed answered, then. Perhaps you need to ask a new question about... an adventurer's expected "cost of living" being different, maybe? And how to adjust for the difference?

comment What's the reasoning behind the weapon restrictions on AD&D 2e's mage?
Also, D&D games are not usually set in the Dresdenverse, with its particular rules of magic.
