Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Started playing with AD&D 1e and GMing with AD&D 2e. Ran D&D 3.x, 4e briefly, then became a fan of indie games and the OSR. Particularly fond of GMless and short-form games because they suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

comment How do you handle Reach in Dungeon World?
@iraserd What does "easier" have to do with anything? If they don't trigger H&S, they don't trigger H&S. If they want to avoid multiple moves, they have to take actions that don't trigger multiple moves. Yes, keeping a goblin at bay with a spear is not safe, because it's not helpless, just kept at a distance. If you want safe, do something else.

comment Dungeon World Leveling at level 10
@iraserd It would take 35 level-up moves to get +3 in all your stats, which would be exactly 6th level in your fourth class. That is incredibly unlikely to happen in a real game due to how long the campaign would have to go on without that PC dying or choosing to retire/mentor. And even a +3 only means you don't miss 8.3% of the time. So perhaps I overstate the concern about ability score in the beginning. :) If someone is that devoted to a PC and manages to play smart enough to live to 6th level in their fourth class, they've earned getting full hits on 83.4% of moves!

@iraserd I don't see the conflict there. Yeah, maybe worth a question, then.

comment How do you handle Reach in Dungeon World?
@iraserd Not no move, just not H&S. If you've got a goblin safely at bay and nothing else threatens you, you're not in melee and stabbing at it isn't H&S. But! If you have it safely at bay at then go to stab it, you might do it well and stab, or poorly and give the goblin an opening: defy danger, the danger being the goblin gets away/ducks inside your thrust/shouts an alarm since its life is ending anyway/etc.

comment How is character development realised in Mongoose Traveller?
@aramis We had this argument a year and a half ago. I believe the OP is asking about the kind of steady advancement familiar from games like D&D (the comment above yours only convinces me of that more), you're counting any kind of forward movement possible. We disagree in substance and degree, and you're not going to move me without somehow addressing my point first. If you're not willing to begin your persuasion by recognising our different starting premises, please don't bother.

After the edit: can you include your experience on these points in the answer, per the GS/BS guidelines?

comment How do I make it absolutely clear that I'm shooting you in the face?
All other concerns aside: have you done this? How did it work out, what were its limitations, what logistics did it require? I don't see any of the citations to personal or external experience that is required to make an answer Good Subjective. Could you fix that?

There is nothing called a "surprise round" in 5e.

Are you looking rules for the GM to use in designing new kinds of items, or for rules for characters to craft new kinds of items?

@KRyan Two possible duplicates, only because they may be uncaught duplicates of each other. The other two are related, definitely not duplicates.

Have you checked the possible duplicate yet? This is pretty much the same answer you gave there.
