Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Have been playing and GMing D&Ds from B/X to D&D 5e. Becoming a fan of indie games and the OSR in the mid 2000s expanded my horizons for both trad and indie games. Fond of GMless and short-form games that suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

comment Should the DM allow characters an equal opportunity to flee or avoid an encounter?
@Zibbobz Thanks for the prodding, actually. I just re-read it and realised it never suggested having that talk now.

if that talk didn't happen, definitely have it now

@Zibbobz But, the solution to failing to make this explicit beforehand is to talk about it as soon as the mismatch of expectations becomes apparent, not to change what kind of game it is to satisfy someone's sense of fairness retroactively. (Assuming no time machines are available, of course.)

To be fair, the situation described appeared to involve more than one mistake.

comment Can a multiclass Wizard copy (and then use) a spell of a higher level than their Wizard level alone would permit?
Leaving it as a pointer is great, yes. (A long time ago duplicates were auto-deleted, until they realised that removed a useful feature they have: the same problem with multiple wordings makes them easier to find through Google.)

@Ryu133 It sounds like the CB and Compendium have written the power confusingly. The original is available in the article "Class Acts: The Duelist Rogue" by Mike Mearls in Dragon #381.
