Roleplayer, lapsed blogger, and full-time dad.

Started playing with AD&D 1e and GMing with AD&D 2e. Ran D&D 3.x, 4e briefly, then became a fan of indie games and the OSR. Particularly fond of GMless and short-form games because they suit a busy schedule and are good for enticing non-gamers into the hobby.

Consider the difference between the field of Applied Statistics for Sciences and the field of pure mathematics. If you want pure math help, asking the Applied Stats people where to go for the best pure math discussions is barking up the wrong tree.

comment Good resources for creating ConLangs and ConWorlds?
Re "practical": we're roleplayers, so we build worlds with specific practical purposes in mind, such as being useful for X types of adventures or to fit the rules of Game Y. That skews our experience away from "pure" conworld exercises, making our experience only relevant to a related but quite different skillset than hobbyist conworlders. We don't generally hang out at conworld/lang parts of the internet, because the two communities don't actually overlap a lot. So this SE's mandate isn't helpful for/related to what you're asking about.

Conlangs are off-topic for RPG.SE, but conlang questions are accepted at Linguistics.SE. For conworlds we might be the right place, but we're practical worldbuilders with our own unrelated needs and resources, not theoretical worldbuilders who know about conworld literature, so we're still probably not the experts you're looking for. Even if we are, you'd have to tighten up this request a lot: "anything and everything" is too broad and will get closed.

comment How can I thwart a vampire in the party planning on dominating all of us?
Ah, then Enlarge person still works on vampires of humanoids. The target line doesn't require that "humanoid" be specifically the type, so appearing in the subtype is sufficient.

Interesting and weird. Meanwhile, Create Spawn (Su) refers to "the vampire's base creature type", so it still somehow has the humanoid type... under the template? But it also doesn't? Weird.

How is he not humanoid anymore?

comment Which systems can be considered balanced? How to predict a fair fight?
@KRyan I could see that being split off into a separate question, yeah. I'm dubious of saving the main "what systems are balanced" question since rarely does a general-interest question successfully transform into a one-best-answer game-rec—to write a good, narrow game-rec, the asker really needs to want only one and really put their heart in it.

@KRyan Even then, it would be an unbounded list question. I don't think there's any way to de-forum this question and make it fit SE.

comment Can you cast dominate person on yourself?
@DrewS "Magic, Casting Spells, Combining Effects, Stacking Effects, Multiple Mental Control Effects". Though reading that shows that the trick in the other question to get a "free" save doesn't work unless there are conflicting commands involved, and once you give a command to yourself you lose the ability to do anything else, including changing your command or dismissing the spell, until the spell expires. So to work the trick, you have to perform temporary mental suicide. (Assuming you can cast it on yourself in the first place.)

comment Is it worth teaching ourselves D&D with the Starter Set, or better to join an existing group?
@Arkhaic "Has to fight" implies subscription to play ethos where every encounter is there to be stepped through toe-to-toe without question or strategic manipulation. That's not an ethos that 5e is designed for / subscribes to, which I wish it would make clearer since it's such a break with the play expectations developed from the last two editions. Yes, facing everything head-on is suicidal. Not taking suicidal actions for their PCs is something the players are responsible for.

comment Advice for creating/running my first city adventure session?
It's still asking for a wide variety of material rather than something that could in theory be definitively answered by a single person in a single post. This might just not be a problem that you can solve using the SE tool, which is designed for one-best-answer types of problems. Is what you really need a tool that gathers lots of wisdom and ideas that you can absorb and pick-and-choose from? (If so, the right tool is a forum—SE isn't designed to supply that kind of help because it was never intended to compete with what forums do well, just what they do poorly. If not, try another edit?)
