comment Modeling gear destruction
You could mention that the shield is weakening, and then allow a burly foe to try to break it with an attack and Strength check.

comment Do magic items really cost at least as much to create as they do to purchase?
TIL the "dead hand" of the magic item market is a literal dead hand. Of a wizard. Who is dead now.

revised How Do I Assassinate a Vampire or Garou?
Fixed the link to the new edition of The Hunters Hunted. It had been pointing to a short-story anthology instead of the game book.

comment Supporting degrees of success and failure when rolling
Funny, because my experience of lockpicking is almost exactly a binary result. "Hey it worked!" vs "HTF does this work?". :)

comment Why would I ever choose rolling hit points?
+1 for "a PC's life is essentially a short term game". Not all D&D games are epic campaigns of 1-20th level heroes. Some are about a bunch of low-lifes, struggling to survive.

comment What is the “average human” stat for Savage Worlds?
I asked for a citation to back up your answers, so no matter how good an answer is, without a citation, it won't be as good as an answer that has one.

Fix this answer to reflect @Eric's clarifications and I'll up vote. Right now it is incorrect.

Edited for clarity--that I'm talking about detecting casters with currently prepared spells

@Khashir an aside: the term "realism" is loaded. I recommend "verisimilitude" instead.

comment When GMing a game, how much should you prepare in advance?
+1 for Don't Prep Plots. For me that's the last word in adventure prep.

comment How do I rein in a character's backstory without discouraging the player?
Good answer, but how about suggesting to the player that he pick out a "first step" in reaching his goal? That gives the GM something to work with right now.
