comment Is there a pen and paper rpg adaptation of Half Life?
I didn't realize we had system recommendation rules. WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED?! :)

Yes. That reminds us, we need to do laundry this weekend.

But characters aren't real, so it's an issue between players isn't it?

comment In early D&D, why would chainmail ever be preferred over plate armor?
I can attest to this. The average starting gold is roughly 105gp, which makes for some hard choices in terms of getting the best weapon, best ranged weapon and best armor. I break it down for B/X here: redvan.wikidot.com/best-equipment

I agree, it doesn't detract from the question at all. Still, the point made back in the meta thread is worthwhile: SE isn't in the business of enforcement, so maybe we ought to just warn posters and let them decide as a policy. I dunno, I'm pretty new to rpg.SE.

Update, via Meta: from WotC: "You can talk about your current and previous playtest experiences and even talk about the rules and mechanics as long as you don’t directly quote text." That may mean you need to remove the part of your question where you excerpt the Rage power. But as also noted on meta, SE isn't in the business of enforcement.

I'm not either, but the language specifies that you can discuss your "thoughts", so I read that as "don't publish actual mechanics, just what you think about them". I really don't know for sure though.

IANAL, but the Online Playtest Agreement (wizards.com/dnd/files/DNDNextPlaytestingAgreement.pdf) prohibits "publishing" anything from the playtest materials. I suspect this means you can't excerpt the rules on SE.

comment Do Sleeping or Otherwise Helpless Targets Get Reflex Saves in 3rd Edition D&D?
Thanks! FWIW I upvoted yours too, because "reality" based play is very, very satisfying (and avoids a lot of the rules exploits/lawyering endemic to modern D&D).

Addendum to my answer: personally I'm torn between SevenSidedDie's approach and the approach that allows a chance for miraculous escape. As a DM and impartial arbiter of the game world, I prefer the idea that some sort of baseline "reality" should be consulted before rolling dice. But as a player, I prefer the idea that there should be some chance for survival, no matter what the odds. Split the difference and give penalties to the roll, is my advice. :)
