I am an avid RP and tabletop gamer, currently designing a tabletop skirmish game of my own. It is a hobby of mine to sit down with a core book for a game and decipher its system.

Well if you want to get technical, the Marauders in the d20 game are modeled after the CGI TV show. However, d20 Modern can still be the cure thanks to the "d20 Mecha" suppliment.

comment Is it normal that players share their characters' thoughts?
My answer was going to be something about the whole "My character Roshi is likely thinking along the lines of X" but sometimes that's just a probing comment to see if the GM agrees that it's an in character reaction

comment How does acquiring a template that changes hit dice affect pre-existing hit points?
As a house rule (hence comment and not full answer) my groups do a roll at the new die type and take the higher of the two (as long as it doesn't go over the max if the hit die is lowered)

comment How would two brute squads fight?
If a Brute Squad attacks another Brute Squad, what would it have to do/roll to knock out more than one defending brute in that hit. However, I've +1'd the answer for the "brutes should raise against brutes". Just giving it a bit to see if there is other insight.

I appreciate the additions/edits, but the "Why Brutes Don't Raise for Damage" and the "Steil" sections do not add to your initial answer. Brute Squad rules are very logical to me, and whether or not Brutes should be attacking brutes, the players have final say over how they handle the actions of their own squads for better or worse.

comment What would a rogue call him/herself in game?
I had a Thief/Rogue that called himself a "Master of Non-Magical Illusions" because of his sleight of hand/pickpocket abilities

Normally I do a "Null" effect - minons fight minions and clear a hole for the PCs to fight NPCs, however I have a player looking at taking the Steil school so he'll have a brute squad or two, and the scale is jsut a tad too small for a Mass Com. My primary concern is that PCs do raises for damage, where brutes don't have to which is at the core of the question (will edit later)

Not worth an actual 'Answer', but this also seems to fall under the concept of players taking disadvantages that don't apply to the campaign world
