I am an avid RP and tabletop gamer, currently designing a tabletop skirmish game of my own. It is a hobby of mine to sit down with a core book for a game and decipher its system.

comment Are 'Mechs included in A Time of War's core book?
I +1'd Yogo's answer for sure. There were useful snippets in there.

Funny in that in an earlier comment Hey I Can Chan said it was like Masquerade. NWoD did something similar: a universal core with (technically) expansions for Vampires and Wolfies. Thus you'd have cores without essential rules.

comment Extra Health from Death Rage in Gauru form?
There would be no distinct advantage, but it's still something that could happen to a character.

comment Can a flying construct escape from an open bag of holding on its own?
Depending on the nature of the construct it may have sharp edges and without an Int score things might get crazy.

comment How can I help a player craft a backstory that gives me plot hooks?
+1 for the spare time question. I'll ask players "What does your character do for a living" or "what do they do when they're not fighting" and I get blank stares.

The main issue with these characters isn't always that they are overused, it's that these characters are rarely conducive to party play.

comment “Slow” traps in the world of darkness
I would almost see it as an extended skill test but with a limited time frame

comment How can I deal with character classes and builds so specific they don't fit in with the group?
Could you elaborate please? I feel like this answer means that players would be each straddling two characters (a lot of overhead) or have to sacrifice character concepts out of hand.

comment How many times per scene can I attempt to cast a spell such as Postcognition?
Altered my answer a little bit to more explicitly cover the incidentals.

Perhaps but my understanding is that Covert still does it, Vulgar is just a +2 to the pool.

comment Help ensuring my monk will be useful in and out of combat
It depends on how tactical your group is, truth be told. I think the jury's out on if you can make a character Prone after a grapple so I left it out the answer.

comment What would a Bayushi Samurai think of the Scorpion Shinobi if he realizes those exist?
They care, and in fact families within a clan, or even the same family will sometimes be at odds if their goals don't sync.

comment What are the key in-setting differences between D&D Oriental Adventures and L5R?
In my circles, Rokugan was just more material to dip into like Eberron or Forgotten Realms. The setting itself is still malleable but has a core if you're seeking ideas.

As a 7th Sea player, and knowing that Wizards has rights tot he material, I just see this like being awarded Drama Dice.

comment When Should Disadvantages be Inflicted on (N)PC's?
One solution I am considering is that the player can opt to ignore damage from one attack to receive a disadvantage. That is, instead of dying they lose an arm/eye/leg, gain a permanent wound or disfiguring scar.

Fixed. Moved the sentence but had an orphan line.

comment How to use a GMPC for the good of the campaign?
I like the Q reference because that is a wonderful character to model intermittent high level beings, but he had more of a Loki-type effect: Yeah I'm gonna mess with you, but if you're a good sport you get something good

I've done something like this multiple times.

comment Are there roleplaying games where your race levels up separately from your class?
Could you elaborate just a little more?

comment Are there roleplaying games where your race levels up separately from your class?
My biggest problem with this question is that almost every game I've seen that puts a priority on "growing" a race tends to be a point-buy system.
