I am an avid RP and tabletop gamer, currently designing a tabletop skirmish game of my own. It is a hobby of mine to sit down with a core book for a game and decipher its system.

May magic missile be energy substituted If you would kindly edit so I can remove my -1. I had the Crystal Keep Feats up and they say "i.e" for energy types. In multiple online sources it uses that descriptor too, but in Dragon 325 and in Complete Arcana there is no "i.e.", therefore by RAW you're right. However, the core books and D20 SRD recognize sonic as a type. It may be possible that one publication just c/p'd to the other. |

How effective would a mech be in a city environment? Narratively this makes a lot of sense, but a lot of games don't care about collateral damage. Missed attacks mechanically just vanish into mist instead of leveling the structure behind the target. In the 40k games I've played, the terrain was unchanging during the course of the same battle, even with the fury of the Scatter Die. |

Does Armor have a base +1 AC if made for tiny creatures? Quite frankly, I would give armor at least a +1, otherwise I agree. |

Things that all characters are vulnerable to in Shadowrun? I'll have to consult the book and get back to my answer. Off the bat, I can't think of a catch-all that's easily scaled otherwise I'm sure one of your players would already be one. |

Can a Pyeryem Mage Talk to a Black/Porte Wolf? Currently both the answer and Jeor's suggestion are at thr forefront. However, I'm concerned about the wolf being so insane that it doesn't even think in "higher" concepts. |

Can circumstances change a skill's key ability score? At the lowest levels I agree with you starwed. However, by level 6 you can have a +10 skill rank alone and that's still considered low level. Also, I feel that there was a lot more to my answer than just that comment. |

Can a sleeping character Hide? Merely offering an alternative to cover an extraneous circumstance. |

How can I replace a player character with an impostor without alerting the group? In my groups, that agreement is implicit. |

Looking for a Space marine RPG similar to Starship Troopers (the Novel) +1 for MW if you use the Power Armor and Protomechs |

Looking for a Space marine RPG similar to Starship Troopers (the Novel) Well if you want to get technical, the Marauders in the d20 game are modeled after the CGI TV show. However, d20 Modern can still be the cure thanks to the "d20 Mecha" suppliment. |

Is it normal that players share their characters' thoughts? My answer was going to be something about the whole "My character Roshi is likely thinking along the lines of X" but sometimes that's just a probing comment to see if the GM agrees that it's an in character reaction |

How does acquiring a template that changes hit dice affect pre-existing hit points? As a house rule (hence comment and not full answer) my groups do a roll at the new die type and take the higher of the two (as long as it doesn't go over the max if the hit die is lowered) |

How would two brute squads fight? If a Brute Squad attacks another Brute Squad, what would it have to do/roll to knock out more than one defending brute in that hit. However, I've +1'd the answer for the "brutes should raise against brutes". Just giving it a bit to see if there is other insight. |

How would two brute squads fight? I appreciate the additions/edits, but the "Why Brutes Don't Raise for Damage" and the "Steil" sections do not add to your initial answer. Brute Squad rules are very logical to me, and whether or not Brutes should be attacking brutes, the players have final say over how they handle the actions of their own squads for better or worse. |

What would a rogue call him/herself in game? I had a Thief/Rogue that called himself a "Master of Non-Magical Illusions" because of his sleight of hand/pickpocket abilities |

How would two brute squads fight? Normally I do a "Null" effect - minons fight minions and clear a hole for the PCs to fight NPCs, however I have a player looking at taking the Steil school so he'll have a brute squad or two, and the scale is jsut a tad too small for a Mass Com. My primary concern is that PCs do raises for damage, where brutes don't have to which is at the core of the question (will edit later) |

Adjusting aspects based on attendance Not worth an actual 'Answer', but this also seems to fall under the concept of players taking disadvantages that don't apply to the campaign world |

How can the players reduce the workload of a game master? Was about to type up my own answer, and it was just going to be a reflection of this. Although my thoughts were more about letting players create their local chapter of a guildhouse or something like that. |
